FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

I've just done a couple of 10pt runs, on the FTSE.

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 09:20 - 17159 of 21973

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 09:53 - 17160 of 21973

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 10:45 - 17161 of 21973

Nothing open currently, I'm just gonna continue to play this now until the trend breaks.

skinny - 19 Dec 2014 10:51 - 17162 of 21973

Closed DAX @9787.5 + 52.7

cynic - 19 Dec 2014 10:59 - 17163 of 21973

small dow short at 17838 ...... looking (hoping) for about 17760

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 11:06 - 17164 of 21973

Yeah I closed mine at a profit too along with Wall St. Buying off the base line and selling off the ceiling using multiple smaller bets at the moment.

skinny - 19 Dec 2014 14:26 - 17165 of 21973

Shortie if you are around, why would I get a red ticket saying

"Instruction processing has resulted in a Red Card. Please check details.

The Quantity entered exceeds the maximum allowed for the market."

I've tried reducing the number to 1 - on Connect CNCT.

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 14:39 - 17166 of 21973

Continuation line added but still trading the same format, high priced bets over a few points and reverse.

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 14:43 - 17167 of 21973

Skinny that message normally means your bet either is outside of the minimum/maximum allowed to trade online. If your definitely inside the scope check that you have enough to cover the margin and try again. I've had that message before and tried again and its gone through.

cynic - 19 Dec 2014 14:45 - 17168 of 21973

dow short closed at 17764.4 - profit of 73.6 points; thank you very much :-)

skinny - 19 Dec 2014 14:45 - 17169 of 21973

Enough margin and tried size 1 - it won't accept a trade or order - very strange and I've tried several times.

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 14:48 - 17170 of 21973

What's your price tolerance set to?

goldfinger - 19 Dec 2014 14:56 - 17171 of 21973

Give them a ring before the market gets away from you skinny.

skinny - 19 Dec 2014 14:58 - 17172 of 21973

Erm Shortie where the F is that set?

skinny - 19 Dec 2014 14:59 - 17173 of 21973

GF - this is on the demo account - I'm just playing with the functionality - or not!

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 15:03 - 17174 of 21973

See post 17167, click in the 'i' then at the bottom, I leave mine at 2

Shortie - 19 Dec 2014 15:06 - 17175 of 21973

Try again looks like they've just changed the bets on it

skinny - 19 Dec 2014 15:11 - 17176 of 21973
