FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Tough decisions to be made by the greek government ...

deltazero - 19 Jun 2015 08:57 - 17869 of 21973

at best just a sticking plaster deal by those with selfish personal agendas to put it off to a later date - but should be enough to send indices north temporarily then back down again when profits have been realised by the relevant power brokers each to their own niches :-)

deltazero - 19 Jun 2015 09:02 - 17870 of 21973

cynic 17865 - there are offers on the table but the greeks have said NON! :-) they also said there will be no part deal - only a deal if everyone agrees - there are deltas between the parties - but as i said above wouldnt be surprised if a sticking plaster applied yet again by the selfish brokering this deal to their own ends..................... up then down :-0!

deltazero - 19 Jun 2015 09:08 - 17871 of 21973

rf 17863 - dont feel sorry for the greeks - about time they shared some real aggro from immigrants - the greeks have brought it (this situation) upon themselves - they didnt mind squandering a fortune in 2004 to host the olympics - what was going through their minds and a whole host of useless projects and lazy plans all of which they knew would bankrupt them but they didnt care one bit - who is next - spain? and the rest.................

cynic - 19 Jun 2015 09:09 - 17872 of 21973

i hear that the difference to be bridged is a relatively paltry €2bn

though tsipras may huff and puff in public, i think the greek public will string him up if the door is actually slammed in his face with all the ensuing ramifications

however, i certainly agree that any deal done within the next couple of days, and i too think it will be, will be merely cosmetic with further polemic and other rubbish to follow just a little down the road

deltazero - 19 Jun 2015 10:03 - 17873 of 21973

yep he huffs and puffs ok lol - greece had a run in their banks this week - if that continues as our former treasury chiefs famously said 'the cupboard is bare' or in this case the cupboard will be bare in greece, say errrr cob today or monday / tuesday latest next week if lucky - they better get the drachma printing presses into overdrive if no deal ;
but yes most likely sticking plaster / cosmetic solution as no one has the knackers to really grasp this bull by the horns imo - that old chesnut 'put it off to another day'........... and make a few bob in the process...................

Closed FTSE long from yesterday 6743 +76 pts .

Sweet Jimmy B

Waiting For Wall Street today. Could be a real firework display again.

jimmy b - 19 Jun 2015 11:57 - 17876 of 21973

Another drop and i'd maybe go long again .

cynic - 19 Jun 2015 12:39 - 17877 of 21973

quite right jimmy ..... ftse isn't happy at the higher levels

deltazero - 19 Jun 2015 12:51 - 17878 of 21973

nice

& russia.................. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/russia-greece-agree-build-gas-105003063.html#VyKQWXm

cynic - 19 Jun 2015 17:14 - 17879 of 21973

most of yesterday's DOW gain is still intact, but even so, it has now drifted well south of the critical 18,112

HARRYCAT - 19 Jun 2015 21:53 - 17880 of 21973

.

deltazero - 20 Jun 2015 00:34 - 17881 of 21973

hmmm - greece got lucky today the ecb approved some more emergency funds after this weeks run on the greek banks - waste of money :-) - still wasting money should fit very well with the eu as that is a complete waste of time and money......................... and the rest - not an ounce of common sense between the lot of them

cynic - 21 Jun 2015 16:27 - 17882 of 21973

IG trades FTSE and DOW on Sundays
Though I wouldn't much want to dabble in these, it is still worth taking note that FTSE in particular is +18 at 6703

Implication is the perceived likelihood that there'll be a Greek fudge - with which I concur

Fred1new - 21 Jun 2015 17:42 - 17883 of 21973

That has bugged it!

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 05:47 - 17884 of 21973

woke up early for no good reason, but it looks as though a greek (rather than a trojan) deal has pretty much been struck, albeit that anything will have to be ratified in athens

anyway, opened a long in ftse at 6721, which is now just in the money

fireworks at the open?

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 07:16 - 17885 of 21973

cash FTSE now showing at 6760, so an ace start to the week, and i haven't even had breakfast yet!

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 08:13 - 17886 of 21973

i would have a dabble at FTSE250 as it is now challenging 50 dma
unfortunately (for me) the CFD spread is 35 points, and though this index is extremely volatile and thus interesting to trade, that is still a big lump to make up before one is in the money

Claret Dragon - 22 Jun 2015 08:49 - 17887 of 21973

One hell of a spike this morning. Missed it. Now undecided if this is for real or just a fake.
