FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

I think you mean DOW cynic ...

This is relentless ..

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 08:12 - 18357 of 21973

:-)

splat - 21 Aug 2015 08:17 - 18358 of 21973

Hmmm! That's cocked things up a bit. All this volatility makes for better short-term trading opportunities however....
Stopped out Dow last night -75 @ 17,043

Claret Dragon - 21 Aug 2015 08:20 - 18359 of 21973

Made a small amount yesterday on the trade post 18344. Not in long on that one.

Going to see what happens over the weekend before stepping in again.

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 09:32 - 18360 of 21973

FTSE
6310 resistance cleared with ease, so if DOW reflects this recovery, getting back above 16,970 (i would like a LOT higher!) and holding, then just maybe we'll have a few days respite or even better

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 11:30 - 18361 of 21973

all looking very flakey once again

HARRYCAT - 21 Aug 2015 12:05 - 18362 of 21973

.

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 14:30 - 18363 of 21973

time to hide behind the sofa as Dow collapses again just before the open, taking FTSE with it

Claret Dragon - 21 Aug 2015 14:43 - 18364 of 21973

Sell in May and go away was the right call for this year.

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 14:51 - 18365 of 21973

for me, until the last couple of weeks, def not so

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 15:39 - 18366 of 21973

DOW
down a further 230+
confess i have no idea at all where this might find support

splat - 21 Aug 2015 15:46 - 18367 of 21973

Long a little UKX @ 6239....

Fred1new - 21 Aug 2015 15:46 - 18368 of 21973

The Grave!

I hope my guess is right!

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 16:01 - 18369 of 21973

better get there before the markets do :-)

common sense says that the falls are ridiculously overdone, but of course falls and, to a slightly lesser extent, rises are self-feeding

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 16:10 - 18370 of 21973

perhaps ......
FTSE support at 6,200
DOW support at 16,700

=============

and while i was writing the above, straight down through 16,700 without even a blink

Fred1new - 21 Aug 2015 16:11 - 18371 of 21973

This one seems to fat or thin!

Fred1new - 21 Aug 2015 16:13 - 18372 of 21973

Why o Why does Stockwatch or Trades go down at this minute?

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 17:35 - 18373 of 21973

16,700 now holding but without much conviction and certainly no inclination to chug let alone surge north

==========

and now crumbled - 17,670

cynic - 21 Aug 2015 20:01 - 18374 of 21973

jaw-dropping ....Dow now down to 17,600

Claret Dragon - 21 Aug 2015 20:22 - 18375 of 21973

Panic if this follows through next week
