FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 11:25 - 18413 of 21973

WOW!!!!
both FTSE and DOW have exploded!
perhaps this is more important for FTSE where 6070 was passed in a cloud of dust

==============

somewhat momentary, but still above 6070 (ftse)

It's to do with the angle of the dangle.....

Trading with the Marabuzo Line

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 11:46 - 18415 of 21973

just banked a very nice 250+ points on this morning's Dow at 16350 - just below a potential hurdle
wasn't a large stake by any means, but after the battering of the last couple of weeks, more than welcome

=============

i'm sure i'll be back in later, not least because there must surely be a big bear squeeze when US actually opens

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 13:16 - 18416 of 21973

very cautiously back into Dow at 16,272.4

splat - 25 Aug 2015 13:16 - 18417 of 21973

Temporary topping out on the 5 minute indicies charts? I'm out of my longs on FTSE and Dow to wait for the open and whatever that may bring! Just like you cynic, decent returns this morning and on the Dow o/night - extremely welcome after last few days losses!

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 13:44 - 18418 of 21973

FTSE
now struggling to hold above the important 6070 level, but not weakening much either

DOW
16,359 certainly proved a step too far this morning, but i felt that dipping a very small toe back in at 16,272 eliminated a fair bit of risk, and if there's an opportunity to bank 40/60 points prior to the opening i shall do so

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 14:22 - 18419 of 21973

took 60 points as had assorted calls coming in ..... premature as it happens, but don't care :-)

splat - 25 Aug 2015 14:29 - 18420 of 21973

good call cynic.

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 14:32 - 18421 of 21973

changing my name to Lucky Alphonse :-)

===========

and now pushing my luck as bought back the same small amount at 16,254

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 15:07 - 18422 of 21973

probably foolishly, have just averaged down to 16,215 ..... but even now the position is just small

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 15:38 - 18423 of 21973

all running out of puff a bit ..... let's hope for a second winds tomorrow if not later today

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 16:30 - 18424 of 21973

and now out with +64 points .... wish i was always this clever

splat - 25 Aug 2015 16:38 - 18425 of 21973

:-) well done cynners!

Balerboy - 25 Aug 2015 16:46 - 18426 of 21973

So, whats going to happen tomorrow, on up, stay put or retrace.,.

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 16:49 - 18427 of 21973

i'm not that bloody clever!
however, it helps when you trade as you see (as was said to me) and can actually pay attention to the gyrations and above all, not get too greedy

in fact, i wouldn't be surprised to see the indices tracking higher tomorrow, though slightly disturbing that FTSE could not hold 5070 nor DOW (currently) 16,359

jimmy b - 25 Aug 2015 17:00 - 18428 of 21973

Are you looking at the same DOW as me ? cause it wasn't 16359 when you posted

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 17:12 - 18429 of 21973

no .... sorry to be ambiguous ..... it has tried that hurdle a few times during the day and failed to hold, but it could conceivably have another crack at it during the evening

deltazero - 25 Aug 2015 19:35 - 18430 of 21973

wow what days :-) well done cynic hope others did well also
now for tomorrow......................!

jimmy b - 25 Aug 2015 20:25 - 18431 of 21973

Wall St slowly losing it's days gains tonight

cynic - 25 Aug 2015 20:33 - 18432 of 21973

DOW now looking pretty nasty and has sunk below important 16,000 level
