Keeping an eye on expenditure is something a number of the companies presenting at the conference know all about, particularly those that have yet to score first production. This is something that shouldnt worry Black Rock Oil & Gas too much longer: it is just months from maiden oil flows from its oil projects in the Middle Magdalena Valley of Colombia.

Black Rocks Arce heavy oilfield, with gross reserves of between 2.5 and 8 million barrels, lies in the La Quinchas licence and should start earning in August or September. Black Rock plans to steam test the Arce wells later this year, a process which improves the mobility of the thick viscous crude and can lead to a five or ten fold increase in flow rates.

In his third appearance at an oilbarrel.com conference, chief executive Ivan Burgess explained that without the use of steam these heavy oil wells pump around 20 to 30 barrels per day. However, steam assisted wells on the Chicala field in the adjacent licence produce 150 bpd. Burgess hopes to see similar outcomes at Arce, with a view to taking output there to 3,200 bpd within three years.

Marcel, if Black Rock's efforts at Monterey and Arce are successful in the way that Burgess and co are hoping, it ought to be fantastic news (like getting permanently the right side of 2p, for a start). Bukhara is a bit of an unknown quantity at present, but if the other two prospects come good and Bukhara just happens to be added in on top, you could find yourself with a very decent multi-bagger. Oh, and there's also Baul, which at the very least ought to add another well or two in the style of Arce.

A small part of me wants to believe that Bukhara has been unfairly cast in a bad light due to poor experiences in the past (when crude was way cheap and it presumably wasn't worth drilling a second hole to amend for the bodge-job done on the first one). However, the crude in Bukhara is very waxy, apparently and may prove too much for an acid/steam job. Perhaps any industry specialists out there could shed some light.

Am still very happy about the other prospects in the portfolio, too (USA, North Sea, rest of Colombia, etc). Provided the latter half of this year is relatively satisfactory, BLR should mature quite nicely.

IMO, PDYOR etc.

Results from Arce 4 well

RNS Number:9821F
Black Rock Oil & Gas PLC
11 July 2006

11th July 2006

Black Rock Oil & Gas PLC
("Black Rock" or the "Company")

Positive results from Arce 4 well - commercial oil flows

Black Rock Oil & Gas plc, the UK based oil exploration company with interests in
Colombia and the North Sea, announces that oil has flowed at the rate of 30.5
barrels per day from Arce 4 well, at standard conditions.

The well has been drilled to a total depth of 3073 feet and intersected a gross
300 foot oil section. Subsequently the well has undergone testing and analysis
of the oil indicates that, while classified as heavy with a gravity of 16-17
degrees API, it is liquid at room temperature and pressure.

The well was produced by artificial lift using downhole mechanical pumps. The
fluid was recovered to tanks and measurements of oil produced were corrected
volumetrically to standard conditions.

On completion of operations at Arce 4 the drilling rig will be used to
re-complete the number two well on this field.

Equipment for steam production of this field has been ordered and is en route.
Following completion of the steam testing programme the total number of wells
needed to maximize production will be decided.

Ivan Burgess, Managing Director, Black Rock Oil & Gas plc, commented:

"This is excellent news and justifies the Board's decision to focus on Colombia
in the first half of the year. The monies raised last week will be used to fund
the Colombian and UK appraisal drilling programme.

"Our operator and joint venture partner, Kappa, estimates the reserves of the
field to be 5 million barrels. Flow rates are expected to increase 3-5 times
once we have steam stimulated the field.

"We remain optimistic that the field will be in commercial production around the
turn of the year".

Editors' Note

The fields in Colombia are held in conjunction with a joint venture partner,
Kappa Resources Colombia Limited ("Kappa"). As previously announced in April
2005, the Company acquired a 50 per cent. non-operated equity interest from
Kappa in the 249,000 acre Las Quinchas Association Contract located in the
prolific Middle Magdalena Valley of Colombia.

The Company anticipates that the Arce Oil Field, estimated to contain gross
recoverable oil reserves of 5 million barrels, could be in commercial production
during 2006. Should these operations prove successful, further production wells
will be drilled into the field to increase the daily production rate.

Qualified Person and other matters

Dr John Cubitt (a Director of the Company) has been involved in oil and gas
production for more than 26 years. Dr John Cubitt is a registered Chartered

you can see why they released that share issue after hours on friday now.. no good allowing insititutions in at 1.1 after they released this.. there would be some unhappy punters ..

skyhigh - 11 Jul 2006 07:49 - 447 of 1049

Perhaps they could've raised the money after this morning's release and got more ?

dynamix - 11 Jul 2006 08:04 - 448 of 1049

maybe, but they havent... im just saying it sort of explains the wierd timing of it.. as Im sure the placing was in the making before the RNS..

Marcel1970 - 11 Jul 2006 08:17 - 449 of 1049

WHY IS THERE SUCH POOR VOLUME GOING THROUGH FOR SUCH GOOD NEWS?

skyhigh - 11 Jul 2006 08:18 - 450 of 1049

There's a pile of overhanging shares to get rid off... not surprised to such a muted sp rise..

dynamix - 11 Jul 2006 08:36 - 451 of 1049

me neither.. they werent going to give money away for free afterall

goal - 11 Jul 2006 08:56 - 452 of 1049

This is great news, we should have a steady rise from now on.

skyhigh - 11 Jul 2006 09:04 - 453 of 1049

Yes, great news... not sure about the steady risec though... I'm as scathing as anyone else about TW and his tips... particularly about his recent " Sell" tip for BLR.. however, perhaps he new about the share placing and today's RNS and thought that it will take a very long time to clear the overhang and hence no real sp rise for a long while. ? too many shares in issue.. ?

skyhigh - 11 Jul 2006 09:18 - 454 of 1049

Grim isn't it ?

dynamix - 11 Jul 2006 09:32 - 455 of 1049

if he knew the test results he would have ramped it up again..lol..

TW is a muppet, end of..

andysmith - 11 Jul 2006 09:32 - 456 of 1049

Whats grim about it??? BLR been on my watchlist for a while but missed the last rise from 1.2p to 1.9p and thought I'd sit and wait. Reading the thread many of you kept topping up at prices much higher than this as they were "buying opportunities". Well, now BLR have more cash to crack on with and you can add again at even lower prices if you truly believe that Colombia and Monterey are company makers.

goal - 11 Jul 2006 09:41 - 457 of 1049

I've been a BLR share holder for around two years now & i feel more confident now than ever before.

skyhigh - 11 Jul 2006 10:19 - 458 of 1049

Yeh.. but it's still grim isn't it... I topped up recently at 2p, 1.9p and 1.7p but will top again at these levels !

andysmith - 11 Jul 2006 10:32 - 459 of 1049

I see your point, hard to tell today what is buys and sells due to late reporting.
I know you can buy right now for 1.2p though!!
