How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I was about to say don't know if anyone is playing the UEFA Cup tonight, but the odds on Hertha Berlin look pretty good. Just found out why, match was nearly over, but Berlin scored in the 90 min :-))))

Doc and pth - internal words from me too

Sorry I have been quiet I have been travelling the country this week on a tight schedule.

"Scrip, I will only accept a 6 figure sum for this hefty plug!.....LOL "

The cheque is in the post ;)

I took time out this week to visit and trade from a Betfair trading den in Cardiff. Twelve seats, 9 of which are desktop PC's and 3 laptop areas. The den is at the back of a bookies and is very smart and a great environment.

The guy in front, David, is trading in running. Look at the SIS screen and the sky screen to the right of my desk. You can clearly see SIS is ahead of the Sky feed (note the 2f marker) so for in running this is ideal.

David had a wedge matched the other week at 100-1 when the leader stumbled but went on to win. You don't want to know how much he won!

Yes we do .... and where he lives :-)

compoundup - 16 Sep 2005 11:11 - 4654 of 10502

Where do I get SIS :-)

HelenW - 16 Sep 2005 11:19 - 4655 of 10502

Have been following this thread as I am going on the course, but rather confused by all the jargon and feel I might be out of my depth! Haven't signed up to Betfair yet as I thought it best to wait. Have done the run through, (and for Betangel)though. What is 'wedge' and what is SIS?

Fundamentalist - 16 Sep 2005 11:45 - 4656 of 10502

Morning all

Scrip - are you about next week - if so whens good for me to drop you a line

Helen

SIS is the live feed of racing pictures you get in betting shops
wedge - a large amount of money

DocProc - 16 Sep 2005 11:48 - 4657 of 10502

HelenW

SIS = Satellite Information Services

http://www.satelliteinfo.co.uk/

A "wedge" is 'a big roll of pound notes in your pocket' on the one hand or perhaps even 'a right big chunk of dosh' on the other.

A wedge is a simple thing used to push two things apart. I guess you could say, wedges are used for 'leverage'?

Know anyone who's got one?

Perhaps after the course, eh? ;-)

HelenW - 16 Sep 2005 11:50 - 4658 of 10502

Thanks, guys. I will start saving for a wedge right away!

compoundup - 16 Sep 2005 13:11 - 4659 of 10502

Hah! only 8 grand per year for a 5-year SIS feed contract. I think I'll have 2 ;-)

Saw a wedgie in the bookies last week - any good?

Fundamentalist - 16 Sep 2005 13:13 - 4660 of 10502

Scripophilist - 16 Sep 2005 14:29 - 4665 of 10502
