THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Yes he is , he believes his own crap ..

cynic - 21 Mar 2018 17:17 - 80459 of 81564

that's unreasonable ..... the hard left laps up his views
that they may lead us back to "the good old days" is a different matter

i'm sure all the acolytes will think swingeing tax rises for anyone earning £50k or even (especially) £100k are a splendid idea ...... that this is middle and upper management, and thus the people who actually keep everyone in employment is irrelevant

i am sure that other tax rises would also be inevitable even to start funding all the grandiose plans ...... so expect higher interest rates and mortgages (who cares?), more tax on petrol and anything connected with cars (it matters not how that will hit delivery of goods), and anything that smacks of profit from being an entrepreneur

Sorry Cyners, you've lost me. Is that a day, a week, a month, or a year?

haha ..... a year of course :-)

Trump to impose tariffs on $50bn of imports from China

The Trump administration plans to impose new tariffs on $50bn in annual imports from China, targeting products such as robots and high-speed trains as it also ramps up efforts to block Chinese investment in strategic sectors.
In what White House officials on Thursday billed as a historic move against Chinese “economic aggression”, President Donald Trump was set to order US officials to levy tariffs against China in response to a finding that Beijing has for decades pursued a strategy of unfairly acquiring US intellectual property.

===========

for a change, i actually agree with that move
the chinese are totally unscrupulous, as anyone in business will know

cynic, look what the West took from them - Gunpowder! Look where that got us!!

Now we are giving them Fireworks in return, and Putin might yet be responsible for bringing down Trump along with killing the World Football Cup as players with the fear of being given a dose of nerve agents pull out of scoring goals against the Russians.

This is one that Fred and I agree upon I guess : Oligarch Levy to raise £1 billion so JC can claim to be clamping down on offshore centers - they could start with this guy that must have money stashed in Jersey that pretends its not a Tax Haven or Hole for Laundry for Dirty Money from all over the world.

well if that did ever happen from my experience from working in Finance there will end up being a lot of banks and trust companies getting a bit worried given we all know that there are Billions of Russian money (laundered or otherwise) floating around Jersey.

The Grumpy One • 2 hours ago
Why just stop with Russian money, why not include Chinese, African money ? A Chinese citizen can only transfer $50,000 a year out of the country - so explain how come they're buying up vast tracks of everywhere !"

try also the Panama Papers
i wonder if HMRC will have the balls to pursue ANY of the high profile guys and companies that will be shown to be evading ..... almost certainly not, as it's too much like hard work

Apparently, the best way to survive meeting, or even better, going for a night out with Holly Willoughby, is to avoid looking into her eyes.

If you do and she asks you to do anything, you will not be able to refuse and you will just have to do it.

MaxK - 22 Mar 2018 23:43 - 80467 of 81564

Perhaps you might EL. But she looks like an overblown bottle blond to me.

hilary - 23 Mar 2018 06:48 - 80468 of 81564

Doc,

One of my friends lived with Holly's sister, Kelly, for a while - I'm talking about 15 (or maybe even 20) years ago. I've met both girls and their parents several times, and they're a really nice family.

I never had a problem looking into Holly's eyes, but it's fair to say that my husband couldn't take his eyes off her.

:o)

Clocktower - 23 Mar 2018 07:42 - 80469 of 81564

hilary, As the girls must have been so young 15/20 years ago, I would be worried about your husband as you appear to suggest he was infatuated with these your girls, that must have been children at the time. Maybe he was just hypnotized by the girls eyes even then, poor man.

No wonder my county council is broke!

Cash-strapped Northamptonshire County Council paid £931,000 to a consultancy firm owned by former CEO Damon Lawrenson, who quit this week.

A Freedom of Information (FOI) request by the GMB union shows the authority paid out the sum over a five-year period.

Mr Lawrenson was appointed in November and a separate FOI by GMB shows no other candidates were shortlisted or even considered for the role.

Rachelle Wilkins, GMB Organiser, said: “For Northamptonshire County Council to splurge almost £1million on consultancy while people are losing their jobs and services are being cut is a real kick in the teeth.

“And what makes it worse is this cash was paid to a company owned by Damon Lawrenson – who has already trousered north of £1,000 a day during his five months as stand-in CEO.

“NCC’s bankruptcy was cooked in up Whitehall by the Conservative’s failed austerity agenda. But the staggering financial incompetence of the Tory council has made a bad situation much, much worse.

“Under the Conservatives our public services have been weakened, conditions for the workforce have deteriorated meanwhile fat cats like Damon Lawrenson have got richer.”

The FOI response by the council said leader Heather Smith and her cabinet made an interim appointment as Chief Executive after interviewing Mr Lawrenson to "ensure a quick transition and maintain secure leadership". They admitted no-one else was interviewed, reasoning that "Damon Lawrenson was the only internal candidate available to undertake this at this time."

Mr Lawrenson left his post as Chief Executive ‘by mutual consent’ after just five months in the job.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said: “Salaries reflect responsibilities associated with the posts, many of which require highly-qualified, professional staff, while being mindful of the necessity of providing value for money.

“It must be noted that about £560k was incurred in the three years between 2008/09 and 2010/11.

“Additionally, as a contractor Damon is not eligible for sick-pay, holiday pay or pension contributions.”

cynic - 24 Mar 2018 08:13 - 80471 of 81564

is there a case for a fraud or similar action to be brought not only against this individual, but against the whole council under corporate liability laws?

surely this man did not raise the cheques himself and on just so his sole authority, so what were all the other councillors doing?
their party allegiance would have no bearing

how come there were no checks at the outset that this was indeed the best company to do the job - one has to assume it was deemed by the council to be a necessity in the first place?

This is how to download all of the information Facebook has about you

Private messages. Deleted friends. Political and religious views. It is all on here.
In light of recent events, a lot of folk have been feeling quite sceptical about their Facebook accounts.

Over the weekend, Mark Zuckerberg took out series of full-page newspaper ads to apologise over his role in the data leak scandal involving Cambridge Analytica.

If you've ever wondered just what information exactly the social media platform actually has, then there is a very easy way to find out, and to get it all in one place.
There are five simple steps to getting the information:

Log on to Facebook
Go to Settings
Scroll to the bottom of General Account Settings, and click on ‘Download a copy of your Facebook data’
Put your personal e-mail address when prompted
Once the data has been collected, you'll be asked to put in your password
And from there, it is all there for you to read.

Download Your Information
Get a copy of what you've shared on Facebook.

They say:

"We're generating your personal archive. We'll email you when it's ready.
What's included?
Posts, photos and videos you've shared
Your messages and chat conversations
Info from the About section of your profile
And more
You can access your Facebook data by visiting your Activity Log or by downloading your information, or by simply logging into your account. You can learn more about accessing your Facebook data and what categories of information this includes in our Help Center"

The full list of downloadable information is actually quite staggering, especially if you have been a member of Facebook for a number of years.

Just a small sample of available items to wade through include all of your private messages, all blocked/removed/deleted friends, all political and/or religious views, full information on all of your active sessions (where, when, and on what device), credit card details (if you have purchased anything via Facebook), phone numbers, Facial Recognition Data and IP address information.

ExecLine - 25 Mar 2018 21:28 - 80473 of 81564

Well, I hardly use Facebook but, seeing as how I am a registered user, I've just done mine and downloaded all the information they have on me.

As it says above:

Q. What's included?

Answer:

Posts, photos and videos you've shared
Your messages and chat conversations
Info from the About section of your profile
And more....

Mindblowing!

If you were that way inclined, it would be well worth hacking a Facebook account to get hold of all of this information.

Just have a look at yourself for yourself.

Trying to be more Democratic:

Follow Obama by harvesting the data of friends; though you aren't Obama/Democrat so don't expect to be hailed a genius.

Follow JFK and Clinton with sexual shenanigans; though best to do it when in office - even better if it is with an intern in a top government building. Don't forget to claim you didn't have sexual relations - this is the cherry on top.

WARNING We do not advocate being assassinated for sympathy to further your career.
