well done you guys who have held on ... sp looks to have broken through quite an important resistance, but you may find that some significant profit-taking will follow AGM

You may be right there cynic but should get an update on the American market which has even greater potential than UK and if positive will foster further interest.

cynic that all depends if it holds above that line and the answer to that will be the newsflow if we get long periods without any then it will drop away judging by the news issued in the last few weeks lets hope it will continue.

AGM and proposed appointment of non-executive Director

At Ultrasis' AGM today all resolutions were duly passed and Nigel Brabbins,
Chief Executive, made the following update on current trading:

'Trading remains in line with management expectations and I am pleased to say
that we continue to have a strong and developing sales pipeline, especially
within the NHS. We continue to grow our customer base and typically customers
are signing two and three year contracts, whilst renewal rates remain high.

'I am also pleased to announce our intention to appoint Anthony Knight as
non-executive Director at Ultrasis. Anthony has over 30 years of experience of
the pharmaceutical industry and he has held senior positions in marketing,
sales, commercial management, training, business development, business
information, general management and as a non-executive director of both private
companies and a plc.'

Most recently, Anthony was the Non-Executive Chairman of Meldex International
plc (formerly BioProgress plc). Prior to that he served on the board of
Parke-Davis UK where he was the Customer Marketing Director, until the merger
with Pfizer when he was a senior member in the UK integration team. Anthony
left to establish the Portland Partnership with its primary focus of consulting
on Business Strategy in the Healthcare Sector advising on strategy, challenging
existing business models and developing alternative solutions. Anthony is a
Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Anti-depressant Drugs don't work - so what does?

It is now over two years since the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) made its recommendation that Beating the Blues should be made available across all Primary Care Trusts. The Government has committed to the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies Program and has made 170 million of funds available to support this over the next 3 years which is great news but in reality is less than half the cost of one year's prescription costs for anti-depressants.

People quite rightly want to get access to 'talking therapies' and in particular Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is the most proven form of treating depression and is recommended as the 'first line' intervention in the majority of cases. Most General Practitioners (GPs) want to give their patients the best possible treatment but are also very aware of the very long waiting times for therapists. Often people have to wait more than 12 months to be seen and as a result GPs can end up prescribing anti-depressants.

Beating the Blues has been proven to be as good as face to face therapy and because it is delivered by computer or over the internet it can be made immediately available to the patient yet the vast majority of General Practitioners still cannot refer them to Beating the Blues.

So after 2 years of trying to get the NHS to meet its binding obligation to make Beating the Blues available to GP's and patients we asked the Secretary of State for Health to explain why?

He replied; "...although cCBT (Beating the Blues) is mandated by NICE, it is the responsibility of PCTs and local commissioners to ensure it is delivered." He then went on to say; "Individual patients who are dissatisfied with any aspect of NHS treatment - including the non availability of treatments to which they are entitled should consider raising their concerns."

We are therefore using the opportunity offered by the release of the Official Study and the subsequent news in the media to let you know that there is a proven alternative to drugs and a way to get access to 'talking therapy' without having to wait months or even years. It is called Beating the Blues and according to the Government if you want to get it all you have to do is go and ask your GP and they will provide it for you and if they don't raise your concerns about the treatment you are being denied.
