THURSDAY, 08 JUNE, 2006 *
So several months have passed... Based on the success of last Summer's Event at Longcliffe G.C., a few of you have asked me to take over the reigns from PTH and organise another G0LF M0NEY-AM DAY again based in the MIDLANDS. This is fairEST to the majority coming from all over the UK! From initial feedback (reflecting on 2005 36-Hole hot mid-Summer's day!), the popular view for a 2006 Event has been agreed, as follows: -
* Tea/Coffee on arrival.
* 9 Holes (4BBB 3/4 Stab.) Comp.
* Sandwiches/Lunch.
** 18 Holes (MAIN INDIVIDUAL (FULL HANDICAP) STABLEFORD EVENT) with M-AM and Golfing Prizes for Winners, incl. "Nearest-to-the-Pin" on the 9th. Hole and "The-Longest-Drive" on the 18th. Hole.
* 3-Course Evening Dinner (full waitress service), incl. coffee & mints + Prize Presentation/Mic. Table.
(** ADDITIONAL PRIZES from our generous SPONSORS include: - 3 months worth of Shares Magazine sent to the homes of EACH COMPETITOR every week. The Overall Winner will get The Money-AM Annual Golf Challenge Cup to keep for good plus 1 year's worth of Money-AM Level 2 service worth 357.50 + Vat. The Runner-Up and Third Placed Winners will each get a medal to keep plus 6 months' level 2.)
Venue: - H0RSLEY L0DGE G.C., Belper, Derbyshire (Championship Meadowland Course with American-type Greens). Refreshments will be in the On-Site Kingfisher Restaurant. Entry Fee is: - 60 per Competitor which will cover all of the above ** plus enough to buy some additional golfing prizes.

Cheque will do tomorrow, Fundy. Payable to moi, just sign it and leave the rest blank. I'll fill in the exact figure myself, OK! :o)
Fliper - are you entering this year? And yes, like I posted to Safety, I agree with pro-rata h'cap reductions. But fear this will deter mid to high h'cappers. Trust me - there will be no bandit scores. FYI: the average gross score during the 2001/02 HL Golf Club Season (all Comps./all Divisions) was: 94 (+23 over Par). Every hole is different, Water is omnipresent, the Rough is punishing and the Greens are contoured. Just ask Predateur and PTHolden if you need a second opinion.
No hacker will win the M-AM Event this June, trust me!

Thanks, Stockdog - got your mail, BTW. Very interesting - I didn't realise till last month that you can also offset CGT losses going back as far as 5 years, 10 months (under certain conditions).
G0LF - played at Blackpool North Shore, may moons ago, Safety. Also Fairhaven and of course - Lytham St. Annes.
Are you not tempted to pit your wits against us for The M-AM Challenge?

I think I've confirmed that I've put the date in the diary - with Rottweilers either side to make sure no-one gets in there.
Looking forward to it.
Don't want to get into the handicapping arrangements - life's too short

Re the handicap conversation, my own suggestion is a maximum handicap of, say, 18. At our club, and most in the area, the 3/4 rule applies to match-play but 1 to Stableford or Medal. I suspect I generally can play to 18 in away matches: Tenterden is a tough course and I reckon that handicaps are generally a couple fo shots above what they would be elsewhere. The answer is the SLOPE system (as used in Scotland and on continent) which rates the individual course but, whilst the EGU are working on it, its seems unlikely that it will be with us in the next few years. I think the lower handicappers would be happier; my conscience will be easier when I win again and it will rule out a bandit coming in and winning off 26! I reckon I might still have won last year on count-back!

The English golf union website recommends full hcp for singles stableford. The only time 3/4 is used is for 4BBB. All Enlish clubs shud be following this. In the dim distant past it used to be 7/8ths, it has never been 3/4 for singles in my time.
We are playing a singles competition not a better ball
Go to English golf union/golf clubs/handicapping info/stroke allowances

If I can put in my 2 cents worth.
I agree with Bob, any Stableford events I play in these days full handicap is allowed.
Am sure Peter had full handicap last year.
Maximum handicap should be 18.

OK, so I'll bring my old Hickory then - end result will still be the same whatever I use, Predateur! :o)
( * FULL HANDICAP ALLOWANCES IT IS * NO LIMIT OF 18, i.e. YOU PLAY OFF WHATEVER YOUR OFFICIAL HANDICAP IS, WHETHER THIS BE 8 OR 28, SAME AS IN 2005 * DECISION MADE * SO LET'S PLAY G0LF! * )

Are players off, Official Golf Club Handicaps, Golf Society Handicaps, or handicaps they have decided upon themselves.
Sorry Markusantonius I'm just stirring it, this Golf thread makes better reading than that of Companies/Shares etc.

Safety,
You can only "stirr things up" if you are joining us on the 8th. (and since you steadfastly avoid the subject - I guess you are chickening out?)! But of course, only official certified h'caps are allowed (Club or Society) with the exception of Fundy who (off 5) is an ex-'Category One' player. And if you think the banter is hot how - just wait till nearer the time - the insults were flying around from all angles, last year (good taste though!). But some of us just let our golf do the talking. :o)
P.S. Fundy, I will be impressed if you actually turn up this time!

Chockie has already agreed to caddy for me so you can always be my ball finder, Martini? A nice easy job!
I may need some help with the Winner's speach, as well. How are you fixed?

I'm sure I didn't Markiemark - but given the two options, I'll stick to not being your ball finder :S

markusantonius,
I am playing in a Lancashire Golf Union Comp at Nelson G/C on the 7th June, it is 113 miles (2.5 hours) journey from Blackpool to Belper, What time does it start, and what are the latest Tee-Off times.
Its a long way to travel to get mugged by a group of Money AM bandits!!!!
Erics comment amused me: " I can generally play to 18 in away matches ", does he mean he plays off 8 in "home matches", Keep an eye on him!! I think his handicap should be put under the microscope!

BTW in case you don't know - Eric was crowned "Champion" last June but HL will be a totally different proposition for the mid-high handicappers. :o)
