THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

unfortunately, corbyn has no perceptible leadership qualities at all

and even you would or should be hard-pushed to say that TM has delusions of grandeur

you and many others may not like that she is prepared to take a tough stance with brussels, but rather that than some namby-pamby with no conviction or fire

as i have said before, it will be decades or even never before we find whether voting for "out" is the disaster some predicted, or an absolute blessing, which others claim

one thing is certain - the referendum was for uk to be taken out of eu on terms to be negotiated
this is now in hand much as you may dislike it

well that's just too bad, not least because you almost certainly did not cast a vote at all ..... so stop the grizzling, griping and sniping and accept the reality

cynic what a good post I like it

below is quite interesting ..... should give plenty of scope for you guys to argue about during the day :-)

Leaked Labour script puts 'core party issues' above Brexit

Document for general election campaign pledges help for NHS, schools and social care in contrast to Tory ‘privilege’ policies

A leaked general election script for Labour MPs reveals that the party will direct its campaign focus to core issues including schools, social care and the NHS, rather than immigration, defence and Brexit.

The document passed to the Guardian reveals that the party’s dominant line of attack will be that the Conservatives are for “the privileged few” and that Labour will be “for the many, not the few”.

Immigration
one of the key issues for the party in its northern heartlands, where constituents voted in large numbers to leave the EU – is not mentioned. MPs are told to emphasise that the election “is not a rerun of the EU referendum” and that the party only objects to the Tories’ “reckless approach to Brexit”.
In a speech on Tuesday, the shadow Brexit secretary, Keir Starmer, said Labour would not make controlling immigration its priority as the UK leaves the EU.

The script, a two-page document that mentions Jeremy Corbyn’s name only once, says the election should be seen as a chance for “a fresh start”. The position will be that the Conservatives have a “reckless approach to Brexit [which] threatens to put millions of jobs at risk”.

Labour will promise to increase spending on infrastructure and public services, the script says.
Among the key pledges are a £10-an-hour living wage, a national investment bank to create £500bn to fund capital projects and infrastructure, and a guarantee on the triple lock for pensions.

The script also invites MPs to say a Labour government “will always give the NHS the money it needs”.

On education, MPs are to say Labour will focus on “reducing class sizes and driving up teaching standards” while the Tories “only look backwards to bring back selection, which will benefit only the lucky few”.

Spending pledges include free school meals for primary school pupils, reintroduction of the education maintenance allowance, and maintenance grants for students from low-income and middle-income backgrounds.

The script says a Labour government would build more than 1m homes in five years, with at least half of these in the social rent sector.

The script makes little or no mention of topics where the Conservatives are traditionally strong, including defence and the armed forces, and crime. Labour MPs are handed an attack line, however, which says the Tories “broke their promise to protect the police” and that “more than 20,000 police officers and 6,000 police community support jobs have been cut since 2010”.

Quite a number of talented MPs are standing down while much of the dross hangs on. MPs such as Gisela Stuart, Alan Johnson, Andrew Tyrie and Eric Pickles will be missed.
You should refer your surgeon to Fred, Jimmy. He needs his head drilling. :)

jimmy b - 26 Apr 2017 09:23 - 76552 of 81564

I doubt he would agree to do it ,never know what you might find in there..

Dil - 26 Apr 2017 09:41 - 76553 of 81564

Good old Labour , let's not mention Brexit because we have no idea what we stand for.

That's not a Labour script it's a suicide note.

Good to see you back Jimmy and glad your ok.

2517GEORGE - 26 Apr 2017 09:43 - 76554 of 81564

Welcome back jb, wishing you a speedy recovery.

ExecLine - 26 Apr 2017 09:56 - 76555 of 81564

Sorry to hear about the op', Jimmy. It sounds like you've been through some pretty scary stuff.

I do hope they made it a success, 'struck oil' and that you are now well on the mend.

Was it a Euro surgeon or a Neuro surgeon wot done it? ;-)

76546 - fred - this was courtesy of the guardian which is scarcely renowned as a supporter of the conservative party

as for tipping, if not already included, i'll generally leave +/-12.5% depending on where i am
as my grandfathert said, no one ever became a millionaire by only tipping the taxi driver sixpence

Fred1new - 26 Apr 2017 10:33 - 76558 of 81564

Dil

I am quite happy to read your "expectations" of gains of the UK "escaping" from the EU.

It strikes me other than repeating her mantras neither, Theresa Maybe nor the leading of her cabinet have any clues about what will be achieved.

The election is trying to hide their incompetencies.

After reneging on past agreements I would think future "deals" with European companies will come at increase costs.

It will not be the UK turning its back on the EU, it will be the EU turning its back on the EU.

cynic - 26 Apr 2017 10:33 - 76559 of 81564

jimmy - hope they found a brain to fit ...... you wouldn't want to get blisters on the new one

Fred1new - 26 Apr 2017 10:35 - 76560 of 81564

That would be a miracle!
