From the Independent.co.uk:

"Sterling Energy 20p (up 1.5p, 8.1 per cent). Confirms that it is in talks aimed at a major investment by the company in West Africa."

ROC Oil has been slippped in the calander today for a trading statement as a matter of interest.

Would that be an actual trading statement or just a drilling update which Roc released earlier? I notice from the calender that HRN shows a trading statement due today, but they released the drilling update.

These items should be different.

The forward diary has not so far recorded drilling updates.

Thats what i thought SWW, Maybe both will release a trading update later today. As for ROC, that was just me think out aloud. They do have quite a bit of West Afrcian exposure so I just put 2 and 2 together and came out with 5!

What did you make of the drilling update? All seems to me to be ticking along nicely amd we should get some results soon.

Ian, many thanks for that. Seems that team SEY and it's thread is spreading, a cracking share complete with the added bonus of cooking tips!

From the drilling updates we have had, it seems to me that all concerned are working fast and very efficiently. Where else would we find a company with such an extensive drilling program with the weekly drilling updates that we get here. From the shareholders point of view, it's good to be regularly updated on the progress.

Price fell back a touch but now just ticked up again. No worries here.

morning all, sorry i am late...setting up a new trading desk. always fun, needed to install java just to get back on this site.

we love a bit of consolidation. as usual with these weekly updates about one in four says anything of consequence so this slight slip is good for those looking to add.

great chart earlier, when u are so close to the action (tick by tick) you sometimes miss just what a meteoric rise we have witnessed over the last few months. goes to show that the buy and hold strategy is alive and kicking...trade out at your peril!

That's the one! Only it's a honeyish glaze on the top. Not that easy to find anymore, only Asda and M&S seem to do them now...oddly enough the Asda ones are nicer. Yummmmmy

Sounds nice! My local baker sells them or at least uesd to, had a sugary sort of icing on top. Not had one in years. May have to change that though!

Prop, agree buy and hold. Thats my strategy, especially on oil shares. Said this on the PCI thread before, that the problem when trying to trade a share like this is that news can come out at any time eg - drilling update, new licences etc. Even more so when the company is in a period of significant newsflow such as we are here. When news comes out and if it's good, then there is the stampede to get back in and the sp has already been marked up so buyers pay more to get back on board. From my point of view, would much rather be in than try to make a few pennies by trading. Each to their own though.

absolutely. i am not going to preach the value investor approach when it comes to SEY (because by definition it doesn't apply) but you kind of have to have a similar strategy..ie you buy into the potential idea and hold for the duration (and beyond if you believe enough in the integrety and ability of management).

Have been tuning in to your posts for some time now. Finally jumped on board yesterday following the news of the proposed African deal. Badly timed - bought at the top of the shop @ 20.45. Dammit. Still, if the price continues to move forward this will be history in a few weeks time.

just your name alone makes you suited to this thread. we are trading a little tadpole at the moment. be patient, we are all holding until way north of 20.45...maybe look to average down in this consolidation phase.

Hardman have produced a trading staement, which I have posted on that thread which gives a full update of where they are with the drilling.


I am not going to post it here as there are a number irrelevencies to this stock.
