Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Tanker,
Referring back to access of medical care in the Eurozone.
Suggest you get a copy of the regulation regarding access to medical care as a visitor and an immigrant in the various countries and then pass it on to you MP.
In this country and much of the EU, there is a differentiation between acute and chronic disorders. The latter are open to treatment being charged the full cost to the individual, while I believe those receiving treatment for acute conditions are chargeable at the going rates for the individual countries
As in this country, doctors are allowed to treat patients and charge patients (non emergency) who are not on their medical lists or list them in various ways.
There are, as in this country those who practice outside the NHS or its equivalents and can charge for their services as they see fit.
Also, visitors to this country who attend hospital for medical care are chargeable under similar regulations.
(Often charging is waved, by medics, but not the administrators, because of the hassle.~)
Immigrants, generally have the same rights to medical care as those of the citizens of the country they are in.
Is there abuse? Or should health care be a universal right?
That is for you to come down on what you feel to be morally right.

The way things are going at present could encourage a return to Old Testament actions due to the vacuum in the justice system caused by to lack of punishment of real crime as opposed to the punishment of non crime.
----
It would seem that the return to Old Testament actions would be OK and certainly appealing, when judging other the crimes of other individuals, but I am not certain I would like my actions to be judged by, or punishment implemented by the mob or rabble rousers.
-------
But, I am probably less secure than many in what I believe to be wrong and right, but dont consider it should be based on judgement made out of convenience.

Tinker,
I would think that would depend on your legal status in the individual countries and their health systems.
It would depend on how those countries distribute the tax pot they raise.
Different priorities.
It seems to me that the general health of the Eurozone has been raised due to the interferences of the various states "State Public Health" services and therefore its "basic needs".
The eradication of TB needing more resources than the common cold.
How the individual countries implement the services is at present up to them, but with greater integration of Fiscal and Economic policies within the EU, many of the "dysfunctions" may be ruled out,
Of course if the UK remains a Pariah state that won't effect us and you had better get insured.

Surely you can appreciate that our NHS is the 'British' way of doing things?
That's why other countries do it differently, just like they speak a different language and have different customs, etc.
That's also, why when you are staying in a hotel in Tenerife and ring down to reception to tell them you want a doctor, they put 2 and 2 together and guess that you're a tourist, and as such, most probably have your own Holiday and Medical Insurance.
Now a doctor will pay the hotel an 'introductory commission' and that, as well as a few other factors, eg, the speed with which a particular doctor pays said commission, will determine even which private doctor they send for.
Now he'll come out to your room, charge you a fee, give you an invoice, and you'll be able to claim it all back on your holiday medical insurance. So it will be 'Free' for you, won't it?
Of course, there's always the 'non-private' way of getting some health care abroad for the average Briotish Tourist, eg, the EHIC card method in the EU zone.
But who'd want to go bothering with it, when 'you can go private' and for FREE?

no i was not .
my question to fred was .
if our workers wanted to work in spain they would not get free health care
and if they have to pay insurance iin most cases it would not be a good idea to go
yet they can come to the uk and it is free ,so not a level playing field is it .
i am retired but if spain had a nhs for me then i would go to spain for good

ExecLine,
I also have great deal on my insurance when abroad, through my previous profession, so I am not questioning if the deal is good or not, I was just stating that any cover via insurance is not free.
Tanker is also right in that the cover foreigners get here is not the same as we get when abroad, although in the countries that are members of the EHIC system it should be.
Many year ago, whilst in Greece I required emergency medical treatment, and the palaver that followed almost made it better to go private than to go through the reciprocal scheme.
No doubt if a Greek had required similar treatment in the UK, it would have been far more straight forward.
Earlier this year I read a report on the amount of money owed to the NHS by foreigners who had been treated in the UK whilst on holiday (or those who come purely for such treatments, then disappear without paying).
For a UK resident aboard, it is not so easy, as they often delay none life threatening treatments until they are certain of receiving the money.
As said, it is not a level playing field.
Mind you, the blame is entirely with our Government, as always being too quick to roll over and accept things, whereas foreign governments put themselves first, foreigners second, as it should be.

Just drop in on the following:

Francis Maude accused of 'lies' by union's Mark Serwotka:
Very interesting.
You can see the problems when you see a government states it is the final offer and then states they are still in negotiating.
Put you pride aside is arrogance and one can understand the distrust between unions and the said leadership of the country.
