CLOSED - THANKS to all customers for the last few years

I've got an NHS dentist, mind you it really is a flea-pit of a place above some shops, cramped, dirty carpet, badly lit stairwell, ever changing staff, forever lost records, the whole lot but until I can afford a private dentist again cost is the factor so it's shut your eyes and just get the job done.

I'm very interested to be corrected by any resident dentists, but I've always thought that apart from the bed bugs lurking in the examination chair, there was little difference between what you actually get from an NHS and a private dentist.

I don't think there is Kayak, aside of more comfortable surroundings, the better likelihood of your records being found and less chance of being mugged in a stairwell! ;>)

I think one of the benefits of a private denist is that you can have a porcelain crown fitted where on the NHS it would be a metal one........To be paid for of course :-(

My dentist is private but its just an Oasis practise, however since they converted to Oasis and private the pace is much nicer and the service is very good.

Yesterdays filling cost me 66 and I think the checkup a few weeks ago was about 45. I dont think thats too bad.

I am pleased to say she skimmed a bit of yesterdays filling and now all is well.

opto, I think it's only the rear crowns the NHS want to make of metal, but you can always pay privately for them at an NHS dentist (which I have done). Also I prefer white fillings wherever possible rather than amalgam and again many of those have to be paid for privately.

Mind you years ago I remember as a kid going to NHS dentists and they were lovely, clean, tidy and everything....Even when our eldest was young, they were still nice places to visit (if you know what I mean) I think the whole thing now has got too profit focused.

Kayak, I think you are right there metal at the back, all depends on where the front finishes and the back starts how happy you will be with the metal:-) Spacie just over 17 for an inspection up here, and clean off the whatever you have missed over the last few months.

To be honest I didnt even check the prices as I was with the practise anyway and they sort of went private and I stayed with them. I am pretty sure that I heard someone talking about having some NHS work done when I was there yesterday so maybe they now do a bit of both.

I have to see the hygienist soon as well but when I was a kid that used to be done by the dentist now its an extra appointment and an extra charge. I am also convinced that most hygienists are sadists and that they are recruited from the ranks of dentists who failed .... I always come away from the hygienist sore and bleeding....

Tea towels in the coffee house are easy to spot whether they are by the sink - eg in use - or in the drawer folded - eg washed and ready for use - anyway they are easy to spot as they have cute pictures of bunnies on them. :>)

I was in a London chinese restaurant when we peeped in the kitchen to see them cooking the food. The male wiping the dishes, wiped his armpits and then continued to wipe the plates. Food tasted delicious and we didn't succumb to any illness.

Must be that Dettol deoderant they sell in all the good male grooming shops.

Don't use it coz I don't sweat. ;-))

Notice you live in Scotland and recently it made the news that there is a higher percentage of aluminium in the water than in England. Have you started sweating yet...;0)
