PIPEX COMMUNICATIONS - TIPPED FOR 2004 (PXC)

moneyman - 03 Jan 2004 20:03

Tipped by the independent 2/01/2004

........."And so to our traditional "wild card". Pipex Communications, formerly known as GX Networks, is a telecoms company created by one of the entrepreneurs behind Ukbetting, Peter Dubens. It has been assembled from six smaller players. The ambitious company is generating cash for the first time but is still not widely followed in the City. It could be an undiscovered gem".

PIPEX & Airspan launch UK WiMAX trial

PIPEX Communications plc (AIM: PXC.L), the network operator and provider of
broadband solutions, and Airspan Networks (NASDAQ: AIRN), the provider of
wireless voice and data systems and solutions, today announced the commencement
of a six month WiMAX trial in the UK. This will be used to evaluate the
delivery of broadband services using PIPEX's wireless spectrum and Airspan's
WiMAX products. This is the first WiMAX trial in the UK to be compliant with
the worldwide 802.16-2004 standard, set by the WiMAX Forum.

The trial will be conducted in the Midlands region of the UK and will involve
delivering PIPEX's award winning home and business broadband services over
Airspan's WiMAX last mile access products to PIPEX's existing and potential
customers and suppliers. In addition to data services, the trial will also test
Voice over Internet Protocol services that would allow PIPEX to offer innovative
product bundles.

PIPEX owns the 3.6 - 4.2GHz band that is one of only 2 national spectrums that
fall within the band proposed for the deployment of WiMAX, enabling broadband
wireless access.

Mike Read, PIPEX's CEO, said,

'WiMAX is an exciting new opportunity for PIPEX and this test will help
determine how we offer wireless broadband services to our customers using our
licensed spectrum. Combined voice and data offerings using WiMAX will enable
PIPEX to deliver differentiated products in addition to our existing services.
We are pleased to be working with Airspan, as they are one of the world's
leading broadband wireless companies and their products which will help us
evaluate the full potential of WiMAX.'

Jonathan Paget, COO of Airspan Networks, commented,

'We are very excited by this opportunity. Airspan is focusing on delivering a
self-install WiMAX solution that also has the capability of delivering VoIP and
IP services to multiple device types including laptops and mobile handsets. This
'Voice-over-WiMAX' and 'Voice-over-Wi-Fi-over-WiMAX' test will allow us to fully
evaluate our technology in a carrier network environment.'

The technical tests will include a wide-ranging assessment of the acceptability
of wireless broadband data and voice services by end-users, and a series of
radio performance measurements designed to assess the long-term stability and
availability of WiMAX. The trial will be based Airspan's indoor WiMAX modem,
which will enable end-users to self-install their wireless broadband service.
Future trial phases will assess the performance of other WiMAX CPE types,
including laptop cards and handheld devices for both fixed and nomadic
applications.

yeah.....but the overall telco sector investing is a bit flimsy for me.....so am looking more for a trading opportunity.....wonder what response they get from customers in regards to their name being seen all over the world due to Fulham FC.

ROARGIANT - 23 Aug 2005 15:41 - 1421 of 1874

big boys been moving out of property and building equities.and oil and gas for a short while now.bigger profits to be had next year in techs and healthcare expect a few months of churning.when this sp lifts it should be a flyer.i will hold untill dubens sells his intrest and not before.he will sell for maximum value if his past record is anything go by.potential earnings from early starters in wi-max should not be underestimated.moving large amounts of data wirelesly will touch everybodys life replacing mobile phone technology not adding to it.household appliances.vehical control info.all manner of buissiness aids.there will be lots of companies interested in buying pipex and when the time comes the current holders of the majority of the stock will only sell when getting full value.

belisce6 - 23 Aug 2005 17:17 - 1422 of 1874

that's the sort of thing that i am waiting for........am hoping that i time my entry or 'long' correctly; just before it rises profusely.......(unlike the big corporations) Pipex do seem to have their fingers in all the cutting edge new pies......and even if only part of them come off, then they should be raking in the cash......and as you say Roargiant; the big corp's will then simply want to take it over.......b/c these bureaucracies do not invent their own thing nor show much initiative - they just use their muscle to take over other's ingenuity. (while i'm at it; ICU is something that could also take off - it is a very simple concept, with a tonne of potential).

dclinton - 23 Aug 2005 17:53 - 1423 of 1874

Some of us are still hanging in there. One day...

ROARGIANT - 23 Aug 2005 18:48 - 1424 of 1874

pipex supplies dsl communications to the public and buissiness but unlike america online and others it competes against it does not offer a home page and all the services that goes with it.no doubt it will when it can dedicate the time to run the service side properly.considering the amount of income generated this way the management clearly think there time is better spent in other areas of this growing company.thats good news for us as it shows that income growth will continue for a long time to come.when they offer this home page sevice package we will know that internal growth is reaching the later stages.

andrewbertram2003 - 24 Aug 2005 11:48 - 1425 of 1874

I'm a believer Troys.
I have watched this stock since the GXN days....getting Wimax out will be big ONLY if they get it out reliably and before others. I hope they get the pricing right....if so customers will jump on it. I believe broadband through the air is the next big thing for sure (obvious comment really)....the handheld, laptop, in car, etc potential is awesome.

Peter Dubens is a brain and his strategy is clever. Pipex is steedily becoming a major telecoms organisation. Having said that Pipex is still tiny compared with BT but if they stay with niche markets and keep overheads under control they will undermine competitors and build a nice customer base. (poaching and new)

220million shares in issue...estimates to make 80+ million this year....if this continues I feel the price would be good for 40p + in 14 months time...i.e after another 2 full year earings.

has anybody seen any forcasts from Brokers for earnings, share price levels ?

andrewbertram2003 - 24 Aug 2005 11:51 - 1426 of 1874

Just caught up the thread and seen RO's posts....sorry if I have repeated old ground....realise I must hit latest posts to get to end of thread....f@;# me!

NielsJensen - 24 Aug 2005 15:56 - 1427 of 1874

You should read this before deciding that WiMax is a good idea. It may be a good idea in countries with a poor infrastructure, China springs to mind. No doubt they will invest in it. However, how can that help Pipex when they only have a license for this country?

zscrooge - 25 Aug 2005 12:37 - 1428 of 1874

Courtesty Tradx from the other side

Should any underestimate the bandwagon that is now wi-max as a global influence then you only have to search the web for news on wi-max to understand what the implications are...

wi-max will be on-board as an embedded device in laptops based on an intel chipset from end of q4 or early q1 2007...the same will be true of hand-held devices shortly thereafter. So instead of buying a 3G add in card for your laptop or device as you have to today to achieve true portability and 'always/sometimes' on connections you will have the facility 'embedded' - all you have to do then is take out a subscription contract with a wi-max service provider.....hmmm, I wonder how many there are in the UK??!! LOL!!

And of course at that point battery time for a laptop will be not far short of mobile phone capabilities...and so anyone delivering VOIP via SIP will win big time...

Of course there will be competition in the form of 3G.....but, you pays your money and make your choice.

The significance of this first step is enormous - the value of this 'hidden' asset has simply not been factored in by the analysts - when it is (And it will be) then the re-valuation here will be extremely robust..

There are only two providers this makes it a high value target for anyone that can see value before the private equity vulture boys take pxc out, and imho they are looking very very closely!

all of course imho!
