THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Good to see Cameron is protecting his bankers.

Perhaps, he may be hoping for a place on one of boards in a few months time.

Mind that would be better than having him poncing around in Brussels.

Haystack - 30 Jan 2012 18:47 - 14597 of 81564

Ddon't forget it was Labour that negociated the bonus deal.

Stan - 30 Jan 2012 21:02 - 14598 of 81564

Don't forget that it is the Cons that are "supposed" to be in Government.

gibby - 30 Jan 2012 21:51 - 14599 of 81564

labour created the banking bonus deal and for that idiot miilipeed to say that cons should of cancelled the bonus is utter twaddle - because it would have cost more in compensation when bankers would sue the arse off the gov for breach of contract (human rights LOL) etc labour did so much damage after all those years in power and over spent by so much i doubt it will ever be mended - another massive problem labour created is loss of border control and mass immigration - remember the stats labour released were skewed down anyhow as no one knows how many really are in the uk and the figure given were for adults only and did not include the children - and these immigrants dont have 2.4 children more like 24!! multiply that over the years and watch them go on to benefits too plus the associated crime etc - as for those blasted human rights!!! brought in only for the benefit of legal guys obviously eg mad cherie blair and the rest of them............. argggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Hays,

You have been so quiet I thought your had "past over". 8-0

I think you must be blaming your grandfather for the mistakes you are making to-day.

It is time for Cameron and fellow cohorts realised he that they are responsible for their own failures.

========

I thought the last parliament was corrupt and some of the MPs are lucky not to be doing time,

If the rioters had been up to the tricks some of the present government seems to have been up to and running with associates then they have been and still seeking succour from.

Panorama was interesting.

Have a look at :-

What must it be like trying to “to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds”?

Another question for you. As an observer of M.E., what is going to be the outcome in Syria?

Gib,

You must have had a bad day in the markets!

Haystack - 30 Jan 2012 23:47 - 14603 of 81564

Nothing wrong with paying the bonus anyway. It is part of his pay package. He will likely get it in the and some other way.

Joe Say - 31 Jan 2012 07:24 - 14604 of 81564

the bonus is and was discretionary.

skinny - 31 Jan 2012 07:30 - 14605 of 81564

There was/is nothing discrete in the way this debacle has been managed.

N,

I don't think you are that thick. 8-) Grumpy? Yes.

What you wrote reminds me of what my father had on his office wall, and he said he read it every day and occasionally to others:-

"If you think yourself indispensible, place one of your fingers in a bucket of water and when you removed it notice the hole it leave behind when you removed it.”

No one is immortal and the world will go on after them.

As far as Stephen Hester is concerned, if he was given a contract then he is fully entitled to have it fulfilled.

Also, if you are not prepared to pay the piper for his tune, don’t hire him.

That applies to “civil servants” as well as various “board members”.
One can equalise the disproportions between private and public incomes etc, by modification of taxation and implementing the rules.

But, it always amazed me how many academics doing research were working the as hard they were, for relatively lower salaries than they could have earn in private industry and professions.

Sometimes, it was done because of the “freedom” to pursue their interests with financial security, even at a lower level of the latter.

(it is "nice" to have Murray, Nadal, Jokovic Fedderer around at the same time, but tennis would be played, even if they weren't.

So you take on a job in an almost bankrupt company for average pay for the job with the promise of a bonus if you turn it around.

You turn around a £1,600,000,000 loss into a £2,000,000,000 profit and your employer sticks up two fingers at you and tells you that he is not going to pay you any bonus. What is your next move?

If it was Me I would expect, at the bare minimum. at least a 10% bonus as that would leave my employer with 90%. In this case my employer would be taking back half of my bonus in tax anyway.

The Hester thing is just "one" typical example of the many extremes of the "Money to the Top " culture (whilst the rest can go hang) that has developed in the UK over the last 33 years or so.

This_is_me - 31 Jan 2012 11:53 - 14612 of 81564

That would have been what to do mnamreth.

This_is_me - 31 Jan 2012 11:54 - 14613 of 81564

To celebrate tax filing deadline day:

The tax inspector was reading the story of Cinderalla to his little son. suddenly the boy interrupted him. "Daddy, when the pumpkin turned into a golden coach, would that be classed as income or a long term capital gain?"

Why do sharks not attack tax inspectors? Professional courtesy.

A man saw two white coated doctors searching in the flower beds. "Have you lost something?" "No. We're doing a heart transplant for a tax inspector and we want to find a suitable stone"

Fred1new - 31 Jan 2012 11:55 - 14614 of 81564

T i m,

It would appear to some, that some are greedier Bs. than others.

It has similarities to a doctor negotiating with a dying man about the size of his fee before he will take a tourniquet from around his neck.

-------------¬

Glad to see Cameron is keeping his end up at Brussels.
He is looking puffier and puffier or perhaps he is full of wind.

Europe signs up to German-led fiscal pact

(Reuters) - Chancellor Angela Merkel cemented her political ascendancy in Europe Monday when 25 out of 27 EU states agreed to a German-inspired pact for stricter budget discipline, even as they struggled to rekindle growth from the ashes of austerity.
