In fact talking medical - I'm sure many Dr's have a sadistic streak!
I have been nagged for about 3 years now to go for a routine cholesterol blood test as our Dr has a policy to check those of us over 40 for it - so every appts after the age of 40, up comes the subject of this test - oh yes and the diabetes one as well. Ok preventative medicine is a good thing...
BUT....
What I find horrible is this issue of no eating or drinking - apart from water - from 9pm until after the blood is taken the next morning! Are they nuts? No food, no milky tea for 12 hours! I may be slim but thats why I need regular feeding, no breakies and I'm in a right mood, no tea and well!!!&^&%$
So tomorrow morning your truly here will be on black tea and a fag until after 8.20 when said blood is extracted - it's not my fault if they get an armful of caffine and nicotine! And straight afterwards I am heading at full pelt to the bakers - approx 50 yards - to get my hands on FOOD! May take a flask of tea with me.....
;>)

and another thing.....
(drags back soap box from corner)
Why do Dr's take one look at a slim person and say I can't imagine you need to eat a lot anyway? What! In common with most slim people I know, I need to eat, I eat a lot, don't have the 'reserves' to fall back on!
Told her I eat carrots and lettuce and...
OK I'll shut up now......

Bunny, I will ensure there is plenty of food waiting for you as soon as you set foot in here tomorrow morning. I agree totally with everything you said though. For those of us who are healthy and do eat breakfast in the morning, the strain our bodies take when we don't eat is horrific. Maybe there is somehting to be said for living on one meal of pasta and ketchup a day!
K. Wake up, after all there may be a need for more logs if the fires being lit for Spacie, and I wouldn't have to do all that axing by myself...

Morning J Stratford, how are you today?

Finding veins with me tends to not be a problem thankfully but I know what you mean BlueLady, they can never find my Mum's and she always comes back looking like her arm's done 20 rounds with Mike Tyson due to all the bruising!
JS - exactly! I reckon though a tad bit of honey in the tea first thing wont hurt, just a smidge...cos I walk to the Dr's - about 1/2 mile and on no calorie intake I don't want to arrive and pass out! I wont be setting foot in here until it's all done, can't cope with people eating in front of me ;>)

JS - what do you reckon on a large bowl of porridge at 9pm and a banana - slow carb release, could make the next morning easier?

Bunny, I dont understand what it means to be slim ;-) I do have high cholesterol and I take tablets for it but the thing that I can never work out is how to balance these things, for example is high cholesterol and being overweight worse than having low cholesterol and weigh but smoking? Everyone know that being low weight, doing excercise and not smoking is good, but most people dont exactly fit the good profile and they can only tick some of the boxes. And you have my sympathy for the fasting, I have to do it every 6 months or so....
Bluelady, reading your CV I think I need your help ! I suggest that you send round a few of your female nurses, I wont be to specific other than to say use Uma as a guide. I am felling better already.

Can't handle golden syrup, like honey though :>)
Sorry to hear that Spacie - but understand, fact is the ideal model for health doesn't fit with human nature most of the time! My chosterol was checked about 6 years ago in a general blood test and it was fine, I'm low on the weight side, relatively fit but do smoke albeit only 12 a day and I'm very strict on that, cut it back years ago from 20. Only drink red wine (ok odd brandy if ill) and do not eat take aways etc. However I am far from fitting the ideal model! LOL

Tell you mother I sympathise with her stockbunny. I had to have blood tests once every few days many years ago and my veins are very difficult to find. Where I was a bit bemused was when the nurse didn't even take enough blood for the testing and I had to go back again. I was allowed to eat before the tests ;0).
Spaceman, oh you want the yellow haired warrior, lol. I'll tell them to bring some red yeast which is a food colouring for chinese food. That helps to lower cholesterol the natural way.

Morning Bluey, I'm very well thank you. How about your beautiful self?
Bunny, I will have the porridge ready and waiting.
On the veins issue, I had a trainee anaesthetist trying to knock me out once. Good job she was stunningly good looking. In the end they had to gas me as they couldn't get the needle in. And then when it was time for the morphine injection in the stomach, Nurse Robinson had about 10 goes before telling me that it wasn't worth effort. So in short being fit and healthy is not all it's cracked up to being.

bunny, yes your right, I smoked 40-60 a day for about 5 years, but I havnt smoked since 1984 but it must still have done some long term damage, but how much? its impossible to know.
Re cholesterol, my doctor has lowered what she accepts as bordeline for the ratio (ldl/hdl) from 5.0 to 4.0. Mine was 5.2 for years but I didnt take anything for it, when the level was changed she suggested that I should go onto statins as they were proven to prolong life.
However with my current illness just surviving the next few days is all I can think about ;-)
