Non streaming still not working - day four.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 Jan 2008 09:49 - 180 of 599

Dil,

Again please accept my apologies

I understand your frustration, and as soon as we can get the additional data base capacity in place this will be solved. It is not a simple task to complete, but we are working to get this resolved as soon as possible,

Ian

Dil,

How come you're not using streaming? Does it not work where you are or something?

Kyoto

I didn't skim read either (Your post 167). However, I'm confused about what you say because it seems to be a bit of a contradiction, probably because I'm not quite sure which country your wife is actually in.

You know, I'm stuck in South Korea because a Government Officer presented a false case against my wife and I when we applied for a spousal visa to return to live in the UK.

Further on, you use the phrase, 'my own country'. Is this actually the UK?

Surely the Korean official is correct when he says how you couldn't prove it was your intention to 'prove' it was your intention to permanently live in the UK. How could anyone 'prove' it is their intention to permanently live anywhere? What on earth is the relevance of this, anyway?

When you say you've been exiled by 'your own government', I take this to mean the Korean government. Am I correct? Is it the UK government which you feel has exiled you? Your Kyoto nickname has more of a Korean ring to it than say, Fred, Tom, Dick or Harry. If you and your wife are of Korean extraction, then why would you mind being stuck there so much?

Anyhow, can you please tell a bit more? Perhaps I for one am missing some basics.

Isaacs - 24 Jan 2008 10:29 - 183 of 599

Exec - Kyoto is British with a Korean wife but can't get a spouse visa to come back with her hence he is exiled as long as he wants to stay with his wife.

Kyoto - must say you have my sympathies. As you know I am in the same position with an Asian wife and I must say I find the whole thing mind boggling as in my case it was very easy to get initial residence permission and then indefinite residence after a couple of years here. Do go ahead and write your book. I would certainly like to read it. Doubtless there are many others stuck in your situation.

Different problem but I had my own struggle with the British Consulate in Tokyo over my kids passports and birth certificates. Essentially due to a silly rule which has now changed I couldn't get my own surname on my kids UK birth certificates and passports. It took six years of banging my head against a wall but finally got them to reissue everything and now sorted. There doesn't seem to be any logic to lots of these decisions so just keep plugging away.

What a bummer. Thanks Isaacs.

Kyoto: From on here, I know you to be a very intelligent man with lots of financial acumen and skill. It seems to me you need to start making some friends in high places.

Might I suggest you start with a personal involvement here: http://www.britishcouncil.org/korea.htm

See what you can do for them, if anything. The idea or objective being, and not necessarily disclosed initially, that they then might be able to do something for you.

Jon,

Dil is in Wales -- they don't have streaming yet ;-)

But seriously, as I recall, Dil has a local firewall problem that prevents him running Java.

Isaacs - I think the big problem is that someone in Government - and I haven't been able to find out who yet - has implemented some policy changes and the upshot of it is that Entry Clearance Officers are giving a lot more people a hard time now. A friend of mine works for the Japanese Government and she says it's become a lot harder for her to arrange educational visas for the UK via Tokyo as well.

ExecLine - sorry, the relevance was that some quite sinister stuff is going on in Britain, and as we seem to increasingly live in a lowest-common-denominator society where none of us care enough to hold governments and companies accountable, the chances of anyone getting to the bottom of supplier data-feed problems seems remote sometimes. Anyway, that was a bit of frustration with my lawyer boiling over this morning. The case is on Monday and things are not going well. I used to have 'friends' in high places but I think it was overrated and I'm not sure I cared for the insights I got into their characters either. I've nailed my colours to the mast in Korea anyway - I've said what I think about the Embassy in my blog and with a couple of hundred regular readers - many in Korea - the chances are that I won't be on on either the Embassy's or the British Council's Christmas Card list, ever.

But I won't get into discussing it further on the bugs thread :-) (sorry for the interruption!)

Experience a slow-down on changing L2 screens.

Chea - 24 Jan 2008 13:31 - 188 of 599

Now seems to have righted itself.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 Jan 2008 13:33 - 189 of 599

Chea,

There are no problems which would cause this at this end, we have just checked and all is loading in normal time. Try restarting your browser if this continues,

Ian

Ian,

Will do. Thank you.

Stockwatch problems again. Just get an empty list. It shows connected to stream with green light, but no list appears. Tried 3 times, each time waiting over 30 seconds. Will keep trying and report if it corrects itself.

zchavq8 - 24 Jan 2008 16:16 - 192 of 599

cant get my stockwatch, on a day like this. Unbelieveable.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 Jan 2008 16:16 - 193 of 599

sounds like the applet is struggling to load - can you try in a new browser please?
