Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

harry it still has to be paid sooner or later it is just a question of whether you pay less now or more later... keep up!

cynic - 14 Jun 2010 17:13 - 1758 of 6294

profits on CFDs are already taxable though not on s/b .... damned if i see the difference, for they are both gambling, but that is apparently the reasoning

I thought CFD's were free of tax, that's how much I know, I have never used them, should have been sure of my facts before posting.

No, not cfd's....spread bets yes....but cfd's add to the capital gains or losses.....I'm not too bad on shares but zero on cfds...but Cynic seems to be good at trading them...

With cfd's : you could have shorted BP., and when shorting you put up front 30% (this can vary...with BP.10%)....and receive a small financing..., when going long you pay a small amount out every day....very tricky to play...got my fingers burnt many a time but hoping to turn around my account...I prefer shares....

cynic - 14 Jun 2010 17:27 - 1762 of 6294

when shorting BP CFDs (aka charity for distribution) you only put up 5% though with RKH it is 25% rising to 30% after 10k shares ... on some, it can be as high as 50/75%, though that is quite rare

PS... off subject ...take a quick look at Avocet Mining (AVM)....could be a breakout about to happen....

required field - 14 Jun 2010 17:29 - 1764 of 6294

The thing is to have a good surplus in the account and a good stoploss...

cynic - 14 Jun 2010 17:32 - 1765 of 6294

AVM - arguably already happened, though not one i have ever followed

=============

stoplosses can also be a pain in the arse - RKH's wild gyrations on wednesday 2nd june were a classic of what can happen .... thank goodness i was too busy playing golf with the ig boys to get influenced one way or the other

I just think that it could climb to new highs.....it feels that way...(it is a gold producer by the way).

Proselenes - 15 Jun 2010 00:32 - 1767 of 6294

RKH will be climbing to new highs in the months ahead, potentially around 300% higher by year end.

No need to look at something like AVM, just keep hold of your RKH shares, as I have said since 30p levels.

I have made more profit than anyone here, simple by buying and holding.

No stress and no messy trading.

cynic - 15 Jun 2010 07:51 - 1768 of 6294

Mr P .... i'll say it yet again .... you have made zero profit until you bank it .... however, i do agree that in this instance, buying and holding has been the less stressful and possibly the most profitable .... but again, you could have done similarly with SEO, NOP and any number of others, and lost your shirt ..... hindsight's great!

Balerboy - 15 Jun 2010 07:57 - 1769 of 6294

Am glad you said above cynic....i wouldn't have been so polite...

cynic - 15 Jun 2010 08:10 - 1770 of 6294

have we swapped roles or something?

Balerboy - 15 Jun 2010 08:14 - 1771 of 6294

I wish........ what a field day I'd have with your deep pockets....

cynic - 15 Jun 2010 08:15 - 1772 of 6294

they're only deep because there's almost nothing in them! .... and i have short arms to prevent me reaching the loose change for the deserving poor

btw, i shall be cycling down to b-on-avon next week - with an excellent dinner at the harrow (little bedwyn) en route

Balerboy - 15 Jun 2010 08:21 - 1773 of 6294

is this in training for france soon??

cynic - 15 Jun 2010 08:25 - 1774 of 6294

the dinner? .... most assuredly!

angers-tours-angers (usual 200 miles or so) is during the the week over the late august bank holiday ..... number one son joining us this year for the first time in a few, which is very jolly

Balerboy - 15 Jun 2010 08:30 - 1775 of 6294
