Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Sorry mate. I have been neglecting my Roger Whittaker studies for some time now in favour of smearing my testicles in crab paste and dangling them in our local pike pond.
Still think Paul Weller is the top man though.

alan, not going to disagree about paul weller, a true genius proved by his sustained acclaim in the industry and constant, successful reinventions. but i don't think you should dismiss writers like bowie, or others in europe who have had similar careers. also , there have been one-offs, like jeff buckley, whose music will always be around.

Not dismissing Bowie, Townshend or any of that ilk. I just think for absolute musicianship, Weller takes some beating.
His songs are so beautifully orchestrated and intricate in their construction and yet such a simple melody is the end result.
You're right about the re-inventing though.
Listen to In The City (single), Cafe Bleu (album) and English Rose (All Mod Cons album track) and you wouldn't believe they all came from the same pen in the space of about 8 years!!!

I think I went overboard on the vitriolic venom!!
In truth I wanted to attack his arguments for his position but since he never actually puts forward any arguments I found myself attacking him!!!
Not that I am bothered too much about his feelings, but I really hate people using these boards to hurl vile abuse, and thats what I ended up doing!!
So no more abuse................twat

i must say i have some sympathy with mr souness. i dont think he was ever accepted by the newcastle fans, inherited a squad full of idiots with discipline problems and had a horrible run of luck with injuries. at least now we shall see shearer put his god-like status on the line. looking forward to seeing him fall flat on his arse.
