Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

How to blame a market maker.
Today the price goes up a few percent.
MMs to blame as they are 'temping' those who were nervous after yesterdays drop to sell.

not really true .... not only is this an "open" stock so not so readily open to abuse by MMs, but the bid book is currently the longer

Hi Cynic,
Agreed. Just showing how we can blame just about anyone for anything.
That is why I put How to, not Why to.
I was being facetious.

Alphaville comments:
Rockhopper Exploration Plc (RKH:LSE): Last: 338.75, down 0.25 (-0.07%), High: 344.25, Low: 335.50, Volume: 738.83k
NH been beaten up a bit recently
NH but the Sector Watcher says
NH Keep Calm and Carry On
No news yet on RKHs big step-out appraisal well currently drilling on the Sea Lion discovery, although the market appears to have taken the view that the well will not succeed. The shares fell a further 8% to 339p yesterday, making a 12% fall since Monday. Not entirely sure why the market has taken this view, given that it cannot possibly know how the well is progressing, and is still 11 days away from its predicted completion date.
As a bulletin board favourite the group is used to volatile moves in its price, which probably explains some of the movement, but I also sense a slight shift away from the exploration stocks by institutional investors. Sentiment has not been helped in recent days by perceived negative drilling results from HOIL, GPX, COV and NPE/PMO/EO, and an ambiguous one from BLVN.
However Id caution against being overly negative on RKH at these levels the current well has the potential to make a material difference to valuation, which is already well underpinned by the Sea Lion discovery. Our current NAV for RKH is 494p/share assuming an oil price of $70/barrel long-term, whilst this rises to around 630p/share if we assume $85/barrel. This is based on P50 reserves of 170m barrels from Sea Lion, whilst the P10 case is a mammoth 670m barrels with success at the current well potentially going some way to proving this up. Hold your nerve on RKH the risk/reward remains compelling.

I agree with the above but also feel that the fallout from the Des Yes there is oil/Now there isn't has knocked confidence somewhat, although as we RKH holders know the RKH management can't be compared with the Des management.
The latest news is that Des are one of 2 companies that look like being subject to both a class action (100 holders) and a separate inquiry by the FSA re misleading news releases.
I will though say again. As for management RKH are a different animal to Des.
