China to open consulate in Kurdistan
Erbil: The People's Republic of China is expected to open its first diplomatic mission in the Kurdistan Region by the end of this year. Currently there are 27 foreign and diplomatic representations in Erbil, including four of the five permanent United Nations Security Council members. The opening of a consulate-general was discussed at a meeting today between China's Ambassador to Iraq, Mr Ni Jian, and the Kurdistan Regional Government's Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa Bakir. They also discussed China's sport initiatives and the continued growth in business ties between China and Kurdistan. The Chinese ambassador reaffirmed his country's interest in establishing a strong diplomatic presence in the Kurdistan Region to promote political, economic and cultural ties. He also spoke about the need to enhance links between educational institutions, creating sports initiatives and promoting people-to-people ties. He said, "The number of visas we have issued in Baghdad shows more and more people from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region want to visit China to promote business ties."...krg.org

"One question is, why this sudden rush for the Iraqi border in this remote corner of Syria? In many areas, the Turkish border is much closer, but the Turkish authorities seem to be much less receptive to new arrivals than they were in the past.
Conversely, the leadership in Iraqi Kurdistan seems to have decided to play a more prominent role in dealing with the fallout from the Syrian crisis."
On Friday, UNHCR spokesperson Adrian Edwards told reporters in Geneva: "The factors allowing this sudden movement are not fully clear to us."

Gulf Keystone Petroleum Takeover?
Sarah Fontaine Aug 19th, 2013 0 Comment
Gulf Keystone Petroleum PLC (LSE: GKP) are sitting on the largest onshore oil discovery in a decade. Their Shaikan series of fields are set to go into production of 40,000 barrels per day by the year end and are sitting on massive reserves. The political situation in reality looks to be improving rapidly as the Turkey to Kurdistan pipeline construction is thought to be well under way.
GKP would seem to have had the slide rule run over them by Majors that are likely to include Chevron, Exxon and Sinopec. The Majors are hungry for reserves and a cash offer for GKP at up to £6 per share is according to major shareholders very likely to emerge as soon as the court decision is announced in a case brought against GKP by Excalibur. A positive result in this case, where the decision is expected in the next 21 days, is considered to put the company into a Dutch Auction.
Sinopec of China failed to takeover Genel’s assets despite out bidding the Tony Hayward consortium and it emerged in the GKP-Excalibur court case that a high level team from GKP had visited China with its advisors. It is thought that Kurdistan Regional Government would approve an acquisition by Sinopec as it would add balance to the already existing presence of Chevron and Exxon in the Northern Province.
We conservatively expect the shares to double in price to over £3.60 in the next couple of weeks in the run up to the court decision. A positive decision would likely send the shares well northwards of this level. We rate the stock a strong buy and unique opportunity.

she wishes! ...... personally, i would be surprised to see any sustained let alone sustainable rise until after the case result, though there could certainly be a good trading opportunity on the run up as the chancers get on board
indeed, at time of writing, L2 book shows twice as many (potential) sellers as buyers

flipped a coin this morning - heads - topped up more gkp
even if the court case goes against gkp to the worst possible scenario still tons of value here and multiple majors running the rule over gkp
£3 minimum by end of September imo

Sums it up for me.Have to disagree with your comments Cynic. CC , for me, is absolutely key. Once the uncertainty over "title" is finally put to bed (despite all PI's thinking this is done and duster as per Court case visits and reviewing the evidence) the market still doesn't see it this way. They need it in black and white, with no ambiguity.
Once CC out of way, and rerating the flow of positive news will also have a far greater impact- like the delayed PF1 news(allegedly it's producing circa 8000bopd now) and as we close in on Sept, both Ftse listing and PF2 loom large. And that's all before Well news..
Only time will tell in this regard that's for sure.

CC , for me, is absolutely key .... i was merely commenting on the asinine comment that the shares would double in the run up to the court decision

Thanks cyril, it's a nice thought that GKP could be worth £8 a share a little down the line.
