Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Oil & Gas Corporate News
Rockhopper (LON:RKH) Exploration (
BUY, 5.00) (RKH, 222p, ▲ (3.98%)) has entered into an assignment agreement to secure three firm additional well slots on the Ocean Guardian drilling rig. Rockhopper intends to utilise these three well slots after Desire Petroleum plc completes drilling operations on its next well, which follows the appraisal well currently being drilled by Rockhopper. Rockhopper further announces that the acquisition of new 3D seismic data to the south of the Sea Lion discovery well, on licence PL032, has been completed and the Company intends to fast track the processing of this data. It is anticipated that the resulting processed data will become available to the Company during July 2011. The wider seismic acquisition programme, over areas of licences PL024, PL032 and PL033 and adjacent areas, is ongoing.
Falkland Oil & Gas (BUY, 2.50) (FOGL, 77.25p, ▼ (1.58%)) published final results for the twelve months ended 31 December 2010. After an unsuccessful first exploration well in 2010, the focus now is on securing a suitable deep water rig to enable us to drill the large prospects we have identified in the deep water areas of our licences. Rig contract negotiations are at an advanced stage and we will make a further announcement when appropriate. Meanwhile, the Company has commenced further work in order to broaden the range of potential targets for the deep water drilling programme.

Picked up a few more this morning.....you talk about sheep jumping off a cliff....but have to say that the japs should never have built on flood plains with risks of tsunamis.....and their use of nuclear power will have to be reviewed....should be more earthquake resistant than it is...

rf I know what you mean. The upside is good but I don't want to look at the downside. If the results are bad we are going to hit 100p easily and so I want to be ready.

Rf, so long as you can afford to take the anticipated loss on the chin and are not trading on margin, you should be o.k. But you need to be aware of the potential loss. No point in burying your head in the sand. Having said that, lets hope the news is good.

This latest well is so close to the original strike that a sidetrack to my way of thinking should be possible if they wanted to do that to tap into the original sands or rocks where oil was discovered,.....this why I have loaded up on this : it is possible nowadays to turn the drill head in all sorts of directions.....I'm surprised that people are not piling into this : just 2.3km...that is one and a quarter miles away....this has to rise if the company took that option !.

Morning RF,
No in any way an oil expert, but following many posters on another site who do appear to know quite a bit about the oil industry and drilling, the general consensus of opinion is that there would be no need to drill a sidetrack due to this drilling, as you rightly say, being so close to the original drill. They appear to think that it would prove after full testing what oil was actually there.
As said, I have no idea myself.
regards Greek.

Hi there greekman....nice to have you on board as well; yes the hope is that RKH hit oil straight down, but in the event of a no hydrocarbon show, then the other solution would be to go in at an angle,....let's hope that they don't have to to that.....I was hoping for a depth update....but nothing so far.
