Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

rf I know what you mean. The upside is good but I don't want to look at the downside. If the results are bad we are going to hit 100p easily and so I want to be ready.

Rf, so long as you can afford to take the anticipated loss on the chin and are not trading on margin, you should be o.k. But you need to be aware of the potential loss. No point in burying your head in the sand. Having said that, lets hope the news is good.

This latest well is so close to the original strike that a sidetrack to my way of thinking should be possible if they wanted to do that to tap into the original sands or rocks where oil was discovered,.....this why I have loaded up on this : it is possible nowadays to turn the drill head in all sorts of directions.....I'm surprised that people are not piling into this : just 2.3km...that is one and a quarter miles away....this has to rise if the company took that option !.

Morning RF,
No in any way an oil expert, but following many posters on another site who do appear to know quite a bit about the oil industry and drilling, the general consensus of opinion is that there would be no need to drill a sidetrack due to this drilling, as you rightly say, being so close to the original drill. They appear to think that it would prove after full testing what oil was actually there.
As said, I have no idea myself.
regards Greek.

Hi there greekman....nice to have you on board as well; yes the hope is that RKH hit oil straight down, but in the event of a no hydrocarbon show, then the other solution would be to go in at an angle,....let's hope that they don't have to to that.....I was hoping for a depth update....but nothing so far.

Hi Markymar/Mnamreh.
Agreed.
I am certain the same occurred just prior to the last drilling update.
Could of course be due to ever present rumors, but we must be getting near now.
I bet there will be a raft of late trades showing after close or sometime within the next 2 days. Someone will be biding to buy over the current L2 offer. Be nice to see by how much over!
RF,
Been a holder since buying in at 58p, adding up to 3 plus.
My average is around 1.50p.
Don't tend to post much on here as my only knowledge of the oil industry is what I have picked up since investing in FKL, about 3 years ago and what I have gleaned from those who post with far greater knowledge than I.
Greek.

Rockhopper Exploration added 7.1 per cent to 229p on talk the Falklands explorer was about to release drilling results from its 14/1-4 appraisal well. Traders said the well was make or break for the Falklands sub-sector. A positive result would see Rockhopper confirm its probable reserve estimate of 170m barrels with the potential for an upgrade, they said.
