LONDON, Oct 19 (Reuters) - British Oil explorer Max Petroleum said a well in Kazakhstan had found a zone of oil on its way down to reach its main exploration targets, sending its shares soaring. Max said on Tuesday that testing equipment indicated that the well, UTS-1, on the Uytas prospect in Western Kazakhstan found 16 metres of oil at shallower depths and that this oil column could potentially stretch for 86 metres. Shares in the company rose as much as 52 percent to 16.75 pence, making the company the biggest gainer in London, and valuing it at 75 million pounds. 'The initial results of Uytas are very encouraging and could prove to be significant given the apparent size of the oil column,' said Executive Co-Chairman Robert Holland, adding he believed the discovery was potentially commercial. The company said the well would drill ahead from the current intermediate depth of 300 metres to explore deeper targets at around 900 metres before returning to the shallower zones to test the find. Got to be patient here...still drilling...lot, lot more to come plus farm out to come for the deep wells...

yep in total 13 wells we know of - plus farm outs etc - i expect a good week next week imo - at least we wont need to wait too long - interesting from ob 19/10 you may have already seen this....

this post is not from me but another bb from a respected poster called 'camperman' - make of this what you will - i repeat i am only passing this on - not from me directly:

'Think of this what you want but I have just heard TD reached, 3 seperate columns unconfimed PLUS of 150 meters of oil bearing sands. BUT Commercial clearly I am not saying 100% commercial until they test, and that will mean more drills to establish sizes, API, OWC etc etc, but I reckon if what I have been told is correct then 50p plus will be on the cards straight of the RNS, and who knows what next, the area has produced some huge finds before what to say that they have not got lucky here. if camperman is still around id like to know where he suspects an rns? they are 5 hours ahead over ther , so knock one out ready for 7am? ???'

I think that we could be on the brink of a major rise here.....not many people following this one.....but this latest well is already a success regardless of what lies ahead.....anything more at the bottom and this will fly to 50p no doubt !....(with a good flow test).....if nothing commercial is found at the bottom...I still think 30p is achievable.

Compared to what I have and have had in AFC....and in MXP,XEL,FPM,AFR and a few others...chickenfeed....

Starting to rise rapidly......now....if there is more at the bottom plus a good test...50p plus....as it is.... I would say 30p plus....minimum....

one disaster - ntog!!! lol - low avg there thankfully but it never does anything - if it does it will be a big profit - my avg just over .4 there - i was expecting quickish 1 to 2p - not so sure now so just leaving it and hope for the best!! bottom drawer for ntog - will need to contact matt lofran again!

Drilling Update

Max Petroleum Plc, an oil and gas exploration and development company focused on Kazakhstan, is pleased to announce today that the UTS-1 exploration well on the Uytas prospect in Block A has reached total depth of 827 metres. Electric logs and oil shows observed while drilling indicate potential pay zones in the well, including eight metres of estimated net oil pay in the Jurassic formation between 331 and 339 metres in depth, and six metres of estimated net oil pay in the Triassic section between 785 and 800 metres in depth. As previously announced, electric logs and pressure data also indicate an estimated 16 metres of net oil pay in the shallower Cretaceous section as part of a potentially significant 86 meter oil column ranging from 60 to 146 metres.

The Company expects to commence testing the well in approximately one month using a workover rig upon receipt of the required government approvals. After running production casing in the well, the ZJ-30 drilling rig will move on to drill the Sekir West prospect in Block A.

James A. Jeffs, Executive Co-Chairman, commented:

"We look forward to testing all three zones in order to verify commerciality of what we believe could be a significant post-salt discovery."

Fantastic......looks like several commercial layers here....sp should wooshh up...and another new well to be spudded...things looking up here....
