BBC, BT Sport win FA Cup rights

The BBC has wrested rights to The FA Cup away from rival ITV as part of a joint agreement with nascent operator BT Sport.

The broadcaster previously aired the football tournament but ITV signed a two-year deal in 2012 for £90m.

The three-year deal, which will run from 2014-15 through 2017/18, will see BBC and BT Sport share a number of games across the competition.

Prices set to rise for BT customers

Around 10 million BT customers are being told that phone and broadband prices are to rise by up to 6.5% in another blow to households struggling with soaring utility bills.

BT is hiking its prices from January 4, but denied the move was linked to its push into sports broadcasting, which is seeing the firm muscle in on Sky's dominance of sport after winning a three-year deal to show 38 Premier League games a season.

The increases follow the group cutting the price of broadband to £10 for copper and £15 for fibre, and giving away BT Sport for "free" with broadband.

BT strikes deal to carry Sky Movies on its TV service

LONDON | Mon Oct 14, 2013 12:41pm BST
(Reuters) - Britain's BT has struck a deal to show BSkyB's Sky Movies on its TV service, marking an easing in tension between the companies that have been battling to attract soccer viewers since the summer.

Telecoms company BT said on Monday its television customers would be able to add Sky Movies for a monthly subscription from October 26. In addition, its broadband customers would be able to get Sky Movies as an on-demand service.

BT has ramped up its TV offer in recent months by adding sports channels that show some English Premier League soccer matches, encroaching on territory in sports programming dominated by BSkyB for 20 years.
