Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

it will be interesting to see if Prince William still gets posted to falklands next month or if cancelled for security reasons - be a big plus if he still goes of course?

gibby - 22 Jan 2012 17:53 - 5776 of 6294

as i said in a post that got shot down about the US in an earlier post:

"We recognise de facto UK administration of the islands, but take no position regarding sovereignty," the State Department said.

the support is and will not be the same as when maggie sent the task force last time - lets hope there is no need again as we can not muster one anymore

AN AMERICAN energy giant with links to the Pentagon is poised to spend at least £1billion on the British oil rush in the FALKLANDS.

A deal would transform the political stand-off between Downing Street and Argentina over the future of the islands.

Four execs from Houston-based Anadarko flew to Port Stanley last week to meet with Rockhopper, a UK explorer that's struck 700 million barrels of "black gold" off the Falklands' north coast.

The private jet landed Wednesday and parked at the military airbase.

Sources claim Anadarko made a provisional offer to invest in Rockhopper's mammoth discovery and develop it.

One told The Sun: "A deal has been tabled.

"Anadarko has got approval to do this from the highest levels in the US.

"And they've been reassured the British will stand by the islands."

The US giant's board of directors include Kevin Chilton - a former commander of US Strategic Command. Another, Preston M "Pete" Geren III, was in the US Department of Defence for much of the last decade.

If the deal goes ahead, American involvement would be a hammer blow to Argentina, a huge coup for David Cameron and change the lives of the Falklands' 3,000 islanders.

Argentine president Cristina Kirchner has been outraged by the British oil campaign in the Falklands - restating Argentina's rights to "Las Malvinas".

In a show of solidarity most South American countries have now banned ships doing work in the Falkands from docking at their ports.

PM David Cameron blasted Buenos Aires last week for "colonialism".

The support of Anadarko would be tacit approval to UK sovereignty and complete the Falklands' switch from farming outpost to the latest frontier in the world's multibillion-dollar oil industry.

No major discovery had been made in the region before Rockhopper's "Sea Lion" discovery 100km to the north of the islands in mid-2010.

Since then it claims to have also discovered a gas field and a smaller oil field.

Despite the war of words with Argentina, SIX energy companies have approached Rockhopper as it wants to bring in a partner by the end of March to develop its Sea Lion discovery and pump millions of barrels to the surface.

Two are British, Cairn Energy and Premier Oil, the rest are also American, Hess, Noble and Murphy.

But Anadarko is by far the biggest - worth $40 billion. It was a minority partner with BP on the disastrous Deepwater Horizon blast in the Gulf of Mexico.

Rockhopper last year said it needed to raise £1.3 billion to develop its Sea Lion field.

It plans to bring the oil to the surface via a drilling rig on a tanker that would moor in the ocean. This would have the capacity to store up to 3 million barrels of crude.

A final decision on which partner Rockhopper chooses is likely in the next eight weeks.

The company refused to comment yesterday.

Could this be why production has moved forward 2 years?we have a partner with very deep pockets.

Good luck markymar.

..Anadarko lines up for Rockhopper

By Jonathan Russell | Telegraph – 39 minutes ago

group Anadarko Petroleum (Stuttgart: 871766 - news) has joined the growing list of potential investors that could either team up with, or take over, Falkland Islands oil exploration company Rockhopper.

The company that worked with BP on its ill-fated Deepwater Horizon well in the Gulf of Mexico is understood to have sent a team to the Falkland Islands to examine options. Rockhopper has previously said it was looking at various options to fund the development of its Sea Lion reservoir. The options include debt-funding, an equity injection or a partnership on the well. However, market insiders believe the talks could lead to a takeover of Rockhopper.

Last week, Anadarko Petroleum is understood to have sent a team of executives to Port Stanley by private jet to examine possibilities of a tie- up. Although Rockhoppper's data room is not yet fully functioning the company has been holding talks about funding possibilities. The company has appointed Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise on the funding.

Since then it has been linked with a number of potential investors including Cairn Energy (LSE: CNE.L - news) .

Rockhopper's discovery of the 500m-oilfield has attracted both renewed business and political interest in the islands.

The Argentinian government recently convinced fellow Mercosur members, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay to ban ships registered in the Falklands from docking in their ports.

David Cameron accused the Argentinian Government of "colonialism".

A spokesman for Rockhopper declined to comment.

Strange that Anadarko Petroleum were over in the Falklands talking to RKH when Cameron spoke out.....i wonder why Gibby, never looked but tom will be very intresting maybe even an RNS the secret is out but how many are sitting round the table.

Jan. 18 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said the claim by Argentina to the Falkland Islands is “like colonialism” and pledged to keep the islands’ defenses
secure. “What the Argentinians are saying is far more like colonialism because these people want to remain British and the Argentinians want them to do something different,” Cameron told lawmakers in the House of Commons in London today. “The future of the Falkland Islands is a matter for the Falkland Islanders,” he said, “I’m determined we should make sure our defenses and everything else are in order.”

markymar - 22 Jan 2012 21:05 - 5785 of 6294

If RKH does race away remember a deal has to be done with Desire she is my dark horse in this.
Desires market cap is £89 million

Rockhopper market cap 930 million

Both have oil in Sea Lion prospect.

gibby - 22 Jan 2012 21:07 - 5786 of 6294

marky indeed - from the chatter i heard this was not strange at all hence my comments about argies prior to this - it needed cameron to make a statement like this to give andarko and others confidence enough to go fwd - it was pivotal (apparently!!) lol
done now so onwards and upwards - i also hear that beefing up of defences already in progress (apparently!!) roll on confirmation news as becomes public and with William due there soon maybe quicker than it normally would - William going there would be a massive boost of confidence - apparently special forces according to chatter i heard are already ahead of him there

Going well this morning +25 wonder if it will hold later on.,.

markymar - 23 Jan 2012 08:38 - 5789 of 6294

We hear rumours all the time of takeover of companies in discussion but very hard to verifier this but this one has legs as they have been seen in the Falkland’s also out for meals, also DC speech the other day was so well timed.

If you get a huge American partner like Anadarko Petroleum it will shut the Argies up once and for all.
