Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Can't make my mind up where the support is on the chart. 38p, 35p or 30p. Bearing in mind the sp should pick up around the 12th - 14th May, may be worth buying for a trading bounce sometime next week?

Wouldn't it be funny if a little rns is issued ; we have intercepted a substantial gas or oil column (I think that's what they call them)......

Sunday May 2,2010 -- FALKLANDS DIG DEEPER FOR OIL
The programme of drilling for oil in the Falkland Islands is picking up pace despite opposition
THE programme of drilling for oil in the Falkland Islands is picking up pace despite the failure of a first well and political opposition from Argentina.
Explorer Rockhopper has sunk a second well to the north of the disputed islands while another exploration firm, Falkland Oil & Gas (FOG), plans to drill with the same rig in four to five weeks time.
Rockhopper is drilling where Shell found oil in 1998, while FOG will explore virgin territory to the south of the islands, drilling the Toroa prospect.
Toroa is Maori for albatross, a bird commonly found around the Falkland Islands.
Resources giant BHP Billiton has provided the drill rig, Ocean Guardian. It takes about a month for results to come through.
The chairman of Falkland Islands Holdings, which owns eight per cent of FOG, believes the acreage south of the islands could be lucrative. David Hudd said: This could transform the Falklands economy. It could be a multi-billion barrel prospect.
If oil is found, the islands 3,000 inhabitants would enjoy income from royalties and a tax take.
FOG has raised enough cash to drill two to three wells.
However, London-listed Falkland Islands Holdings has diversified so that it is not solely reliant on an oil find.
It runs the Portsmouth harbour ferry and owns an art logistics firm called Momart.

RKH moving up nicely. DES too.
Wonder if there are rumours with the ongoing RKH drill ? Mudlogs showing oil ?
Interesting.

with the markets all over the place, it's almost impossible to tell.
it could just as easily be some short positions being closed

I don't think so, could be a leak, not of the BP kind!

I've been watching for a while. Unfortunately I was getting ready to dip my toe into this one but held back as the markets were a bit weak. Will they strike oil? Who knows. Their last RNS said that they would be making no announcements until the drilling was complete and that is a couple of weeks or more away. Maybe they will have to make an announcement if the prices keep on rising.

The fact that DES is up to suggests there might be a faint whiff of good news potential, therefore shorts are closing out (DES and RKH are both North Falklands with the same PR team, rig, info sharing etc..... and by contrast FOGL is down).
Therefore could well be shorts closing as the "drums" are hinting that this one might not be bad news, not strong enough rumours to get buyers in in volume, but enough to warrant closing shorts perhaps ?

Sea Lion Exploration Well - 14/10-2
Oil Discovery
Rockhopper Exploration, the North Falkland Basin oil and gas exploration
company, is pleased to announce that well 14/10-2 on the Sea Lion prospect has
reached a depth of 2,744 metres. Initial data collected indicate that this well
is an oil discovery, which would be the first in the North Falkland Basin.
The Company has run a suite of wireline logs and logging data collected thus far
indicate that the well has encountered a 150 metre gross interval of sand and
shales. The data show that the well has 53 metres of net pay distributed in
multiple pay zones, the thickest of which has a net pay of 25 metres. These pay
zones have an average porosity of 19%.
Rockhopper now intends to collect additional logging information prior to making
a decision whether to plug and abandon the well, or to suspend the well for
future testing. The Company is also considering whether to drill an appraisal
well on Sea Lion later during the current drilling campaign. Further information
will be distributed in due course.
It remains the intention of the Company to drill the Ernest prospect in the
fourth slot of the overall Falklands Drilling programme.
Samuel Moody, Managing Director, commented:
"We are extremely excited by the results of this well. While we are presently
acquiring additional data, current indications are that we have made the first
oil discovery in the North Falkland Basin. We will now focus on analysing in
more detail the data gathered from the well, in addition to continuing
preparations for the drilling of our Ernest prospect later in the year."
