This is a mad market at the moment...nothing makes sense

skyhigh - 18 May 2006 08:51 - 618 of 2511

True, VOG seems to be tracking the downward movement of the mkt for the time being.
I still think the FTSE will go down further 5500-ish... if it breaks this it'll be 5250 next stop !... don't think'll get this low but who can tell !

scotinvestor - 18 May 2006 11:23 - 619 of 2511

one of the brokers thinks FTSE will go lower than 5000!!!!

And also market will be suppressed for some period of time and i think we are talking about years!!!!

I'm not surprised since our government are crippled right now.
Unless a new government takes over, Britain is screwed. Especially England with the amount of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. You dont know who's who anymore in UK. I started going on hols to Russia, Ukraine in recent years as i like talking to people there and know at least who i am going to speak to when i approach them.

capetown - 18 May 2006 11:30 - 620 of 2511

scotinvestor,i very much doubt that our asylum seekers are effecting the share price of any stock

capetown - 18 May 2006 11:32 - 621 of 2511

And make shure you dont have a tan next time in Russia as you are so well informed you will have seen the news on how gangs murder anything that is not remotley russian while the goverment look on!

cynic - 18 May 2006 11:35 - 622 of 2511

scotinvestor ..... capetown put the point very politely ...... you are obviously in a blue funk, for which I am sorry, but frankly you are talking bollocks

soul traders - 18 May 2006 11:47 - 623 of 2511

Good morning everyone!

Cynic, like you I am loving and cherishing, but glad of a trial separation from 40% of my holding in view of this morning's little "scathing". I see the small stuff is taking a walloping again this morning, while the large-caps pause for breath.

In current conditions it's far better to be in a position to reinvest profits taken than to stay fully invested and run a large risk of bewailing my losses.

I'd be happy for the market to behave a little more rationally at times, but am hoping by successfully anticipating some of its wildness to come out on the winning side.

soul traders - 18 May 2006 15:21 - 624 of 2511

And down some more - indicative bid now at 188p!!

I never thought the day would come when this stock would drop 20% on positive news from Danniella, but that's how crazy everything is right now.

lizard - 22 May 2006 15:29 - 625 of 2511

bloody hell!- what is going on here?- don't hold but it is getting tempting at this price. didn't think we would see below 200p again.

soul traders - 22 May 2006 15:38 - 626 of 2511

Keep tracking it down, I say (meaning, don't catch a falling knife!). If it gets too tempting I'm topping up again. I only sold because I was sooooo overweight this stock and didn't want to sit on my hands in case it did exactly what it's done since, which is to accelerate into some sort of freefall as investors spent the weekend panicking and came out in force to sell today.

The main indices are still taking a whipping, so expect this to descend for a while longer, I should think. Don't ask me what effect any good news is likely to have - it will be an interesting litmus test of the market.

hlyeo98 - 22 May 2006 17:50 - 627 of 2511

VOG is 170p now...will it go down further from here since it crumbles through the 200p resistance?

Peter123 - 22 May 2006 18:29 - 628 of 2511

The share is going down because of the market. Have faith in this stock.

scotinvestor - 22 May 2006 19:04 - 629 of 2511

guaranteed to go to 150p at least.

Maybe more!!!!!!!!

soul traders - 22 May 2006 19:29 - 630 of 2511

IMO this share is valued to a large extent on speculation - projections of resources - rather than fundamentals such as revenue, production, profits, etc. That's okay in a bull market as there is plenty of support for the prices, but not so good in a bear season.

The SP did not react well to the recent good news and I wonder if further good news will be enough to slow it down. I'm thinking of selling another chunk - I am fortunate enough still to be in profit - and waiting a while as I am beginning to think it may take a while for some of these resources companies to turn around. Even those that are producing, such as JKX, are taking a similar pasting.

This might regain a few pence tomorrow, but there could be more downside out there in view of the negative stance in the market.

WDIK, all IMO.

soul traders - 23 May 2006 09:07 - 631 of 2511

Well, well, well . . . up 19p this morning.

cynic - 23 May 2006 10:23 - 632 of 2511

soul* - unlike many other companies, even CHP and especially ELP(!), VOG has actually proven its assets. On that basis, surely it ceases to be a blue sky company and enters the world of reality

soul traders - 23 May 2006 11:18 - 633 of 2511

I thought proof was still ongoing - last RNS mentioned the geological probability of success of the drilling.

cynic - 23 May 2006 11:30 - 634 of 2511

I may well be wrong, but I am under the strong impression that not only have they found very significant quantities of gas, but the last report (Well 106?) legitimately increased the reserves 3-fold from memory ..... It was on the back of that the price then went to 260 with a couple of analysts upgrading fair value to 330 ...... Reports from further test wells (103 and 104-bis) are expected shortly.

lizard - 24 May 2006 12:38 - 635 of 2511

these are getting battered atm. wasn't going to buy these but seriously thinking about it didn't think it would see these levels again?. any thoughts why?

Strawbs - 24 May 2006 12:51 - 636 of 2511

No fundamental changes as far as I'm aware, but the market doesn't like any risk at the moment, so your being offered them cheap. Of course cheap is only a measure of previous prices, not future ones........ Personally I would avoid buying anything that "seems" cheap at the moment. With so much volatility around, you could get some very nasty surprises! I'm 100% cash at the moment, and I've been tempted a few times to buy back some of my "former darling" stocks, but when I come back a few days later, I've seen them down even further. Prices are at least as much about confidence as fundamentals.
