Sold HNR +17p.

Trying to increase this holding, but there seems a shortage of shares.........

proptrade - 07 Oct 2004 15:09 - 641 of 7811

lovely turn...nice bottle of wine tonight for you...

i can off you a quarter at 25p if you are struggling!

hilary - 07 Oct 2004 15:10 - 642 of 7811

Prop,

There are 2 reasons why I don't believe for one second that those trades were a rollover. Not being condescending, but I don't really want to discuss the reasons on here though. Let's just enjoy the flight.

:o)

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 15:14 - 643 of 7811

I'm not tight, but my broker offered 19p a share, and I refused and said 18.75, and then became 30k SEY better off.

I did'nt know I could barter, but it did take a good few minutes to fill this one!

;-)

Looks like an instant profit is about to appear.

The bid has ticked up a 1/4p

proptrade - 07 Oct 2004 15:20 - 645 of 7811

lovely trade SWW....

hilary, i would be happy to hear your view on the trade on the board...i am thick skinned enough to hear a view and not let anything degenerate into a slagging match - not my style and i am sure not yours either!

by way of background i was a proprietary equity trader for eight years at a top tier american investment bank and prior to that worked on the UK pitches as a market maker. i would be happy to hear your two reasons and would respectfully admit that i am wrong if they stack up....

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 15:21 - 646 of 7811

prop, thanks for your words in respect of HNR and SEY, small they may have been, but I knew them to be right!

Less outlay for the same return!

;-)

MS, you are new to the board but instantly likeable. keep on buying!

by the way have was the dripping last night, really made me lol!

mickeyskint - 07 Oct 2004 15:31 - 649 of 7811

Proptrade

Thanks for that. The dripping tasted awful but with a touch of Masala paste and some lime pickle it was just like the local takeaway. Mind you was it pay back time this morning oh boy did we burn.

Good Luck

I wondered when the bum jokes would start! Sooooo British! Keep up the good work!

namreh3 - 07 Oct 2004 15:41 - 651 of 7811

SWW Surprised you have sold HNR. DNX and HNR seem inextricably linked and both appear to be sailing North steadily. (although I must admit to being in both and TLW but sold far too early). Does the sale indicate you being more excited by SEY opps in near/med term than HNR which has already had a good run?
Will you buy back into HNR or look around for another oil minnow?

proptrade - 07 Oct 2004 15:45 - 652 of 7811

can i just say that SWW was just showing signs of a disiplined trader when he sold...i will now let him obviously answer the question and keep my big nose out of it!

namreh3 - 07 Oct 2004 15:49 - 653 of 7811

That's OK Prop. More feedback the better. Amateur dabblers like me (frequent and moderately costly mistakes in past) need all the assistance from the pro's we can get.

I would stop watching the trades, dont make any decisions from it, if you have access i have a thread over on the traders bb on trade reporting.

HNR for me was a buy after a fall.

I had no intention of keeping that cash tied up, but saw the chance of making a quick buck!

I did!

It surpassed my target price, (+10), so I made the decision at +17p.

I noted that there had been consistant rises over a number of days, and rather than have all my cash in the one venture, (Mauritannia), decided to take the profit on HNR. Today there had been disproportional sells to buys.

I then put the profit plus a little into SEY, so in a way, I have a partial free carry in the stock.

To me that was a wise move.

I now have cash to spare for the next panic that stikes a stock for no reason.

I would consider HNR if things are right, the but is although they stand to get a bigger slice if things work out, they are also risking a lot, whereas SEY have a free carry.

I am not saying my strategy is right, but it was right for me.

I am holding PCI as a punt, and PRE both of which are short term holds, both of which have the potential to make me money more than they have already, (he says crossing fingers and toes).

proptrade - 07 Oct 2004 16:18 - 657 of 7811

nice summation...the inner workings of SWW's trading strategy in black and white and i like the free carry reference....like stock, like investor!

i really think these SEY are going to pop...

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 16:47 - 658 of 7811

HNR has dropped below my sell price on the close, so for today, I was right.

My next trick is never to look back at what might have been, unless the price drops through the floor.

proptrade - 07 Oct 2004 16:51 - 659 of 7811

smart...my view has always been as long as i am happy at that point in time about buying, selling or cutting i don't care what happens from there. still, nice that it all worked out for you today SWW!
