it's getting absolutely bad. just keeps on falling... when will it reach the bottom ?

queen - 12 Jun 2006 11:47 - 737 of 2511

that's what I mean, it would take some pretty significant news to push the SP up 12%, so I'm wondering what it could be that's pushing it down 12% ??!!

skyhigh - 12 Jun 2006 11:53 - 738 of 2511

somebodys' having a laff at our expense!... what a scam this is turning out to be!

Strawbs - 12 Jun 2006 11:53 - 739 of 2511

It's only speculation, but what I think is happening in the market is this:

Profitable positions are being liquidated to cover losses elsewhere.
This is pushing the price down and forcing other leveraged buyers to liquidate positions.
This is forcing stock to be sold at any price.
This pushes the price down further and creates downward momentum (a vicous cycle).

If I'm right, other recent high flyers will start to get hit as the ripples spread out.

Strawbs.

cynic - 12 Jun 2006 12:00 - 740 of 2511

For what it is worth, there seems to be neither news nor even rumour in the market to have precipitated this frightening fall ...... Hope Strawbs is right and that the RNS, due in 1-2 weeks will do more than settle nerves

queen - 12 Jun 2006 12:04 - 741 of 2511

Just spoke to someone who told me that the big fall MAY be due to rumours that they've hit a dry well...any thoughts?

Strawbs - 12 Jun 2006 12:06 - 742 of 2511

To be precise. I suspect a positive RNS will settle, and perhaps improve the price a little, but I would avoid buying until the new price trend is sustained. A rise in price may not last, especially if there's further negative inflation news (several possible indicators this week, especially US CPI on Wednesday). Individual holders will have to decide on their own stratergy as far as holding or selling into strength is concerned.

Strawbs.

cynic - 12 Jun 2006 12:07 - 743 of 2511

no such rumour in the market that i can discover, but inevitably that is always a possibility, though I would have thought not too likely ...... Arguably the new test drillings have not come up quite as productive as might have been hoped ...... However and to repeat, there seems to be no scuttle going round the market.

queen - 12 Jun 2006 12:17 - 744 of 2511

cynic, how do you know the new test drillings have not come up quite as productive as might have been hoped? Was there any news that I've missed?

cynic - 12 Jun 2006 12:23 - 745 of 2511

I don't know at all! I was merely positing an alternative reason other than a dry well or even no good cause at all ..... You misread me slightly and/or sorry if I misled!

queen - 12 Jun 2006 12:31 - 746 of 2511

no probs. another reason may be that investors are starting to think the whole compnay could be overvalued? it has risen over 400% in the space of about 10 months, could it be that this initial jump was an over reaction, and the recent falls in SP are simply a correction? I really hope this isnt the case anyway!

cynic - 12 Jun 2006 12:41 - 747 of 2511

By chance I have spoken to 3/4 peeps in the investment world who hold these shares and are not connected with each other. As also recently posted, Ambrian have reiterated their BUY on weakness recommendation with a risk-adjusted fair value of 330. IMO, unless there is some nasty news lurking, this must be a low risk buy.

queen - 12 Jun 2006 13:10 - 748 of 2511

Isn't Ambrian's buy recommendation a bit of a biased opinion, seeing as they are VOG's appointed brokers?

soul traders - 12 Jun 2006 13:14 - 749 of 2511

Cynic, another of our (rare?!?!) agreements :o) I haven't got the benefit of your connections, but experience of other oilers calls to mind charts just like the current one of VOG - sooner or later comes a deep valley born of fear and indecision, followed by a spectacular rally when good news comes through.

Rumours of a dry well? Let's be honest, that kind of talk is cheap. Anyone can speculate that a well has failed and in the absence of anything concrete it takes on the form of truth amongst the nervous. Crikey, I'm starting to sound like TFC . . .

Watch for buying opportunities, don't catch a falling knife, IMO.

cynic - 12 Jun 2006 13:15 - 750 of 2511

Yes though they must still work within pretty tight rules and guidelines ..... or at least so i would have thought ...... they also explain how they reached their pricing - i.e. NAV of 512 reduced to allow for risk factor.

WOODIE - 12 Jun 2006 16:43 - 751 of 2511

poor end to the day if you are long, what is worrying is the blocks of 50k & 75k of shares hitting the market do they know bad news is in the way?

soul traders - 12 Jun 2006 16:51 - 752 of 2511

Woodie, if I was a City big boy with time on my hands I'd be doing a few crafty shorts or trimming my long positions to buy back at a lower price.

I'd be willing to bet that this SP sheds another 20p or so, which is a nice little earner for a few clicks of the mouse.

Holding my nerve - the worst that can happen is that I'll get skinned alive. :o)

WOODIE - 12 Jun 2006 17:15 - 753 of 2511

s traders what is not known by the pis is how much longer this rns will be,the longer it takes the s/p will decline further, the race is on for the board to get it released good or bad asap.

cynic - 12 Jun 2006 17:21 - 754 of 2511

Of coutrse, some of the sales may well be forced by stop losses or even some pis who, unlike me, got in at well below 100 and are just ensuring that they have some profits booked .... and perhaps with a view to buying back cheaper if they can.

I think Ambrian said that RNS should be out around mid June, and certainly before month end

skyhigh - 12 Jun 2006 23:08 - 755 of 2511

Another bad day in the markets is on the cards tomorrow due to Mervyn Kings comments tonite,,, be interesting to see how VOG holds up.
