Have mixed "feelings" about causing the deaths of members of other species, but "feel" if it "has" to be done, it should be done as painlessly as possible.

I use going coarse fishing, nice day out caught very little and felt it difficult to justify sticking a hook in a fishes mouth, dragging it out of the water and then chucking it back in the water.

However, the majority of fish were very safe when I was about as I caught very few.

Swapped to fly fishing, justifying doing so, as at least, I might eat the products of my effort.

Caught even less, but felt less guilty.

Absolutely spot on, how civilised are we that we treat our animals so well, it's about time we came down much harder on them, of course the animals I refer to are the likes of Sutcliffe, Tobin and Andrews et al, the victims and their families of crimes committed by the likes of these vermin deserve so much better.

mnamreh -- Do we know what sort of background from which these individuals arose, I have no idea about their upbringing, have you? It is easy to 'blanket' blame their upbringing as the reasons for their behaviour.

As regards to charitable donations, I find it extremely hard to give more than I do, this is almost certainly due to my scepticism. So much money is required to pay the directors and others at the top of the tree before it gets to those unfortunate enough to have to rely on such donations.

About 15 years ago the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity were paying a director 69k per annum, which I don't think was very charitable of him.

Roughly 7 years ago my sister-in-law collected for the RNLI - knocking on doors etc. Prior to embarking on their charitable mission the family of 5 adults put all the loose change they had into the tin, my brother topped up with a 10 note. My s-i-l then collected around the community. She subsequently received a thank you for collecting ---- 2.38.

Also 90% of the people who have just 10% of the wealth are targeted to exhaustion.

It is always difficult when we look deep into, 'why people are as they are'.
I agree many are bought up by bad parents, in bad areas, and obviously that does often result in a bad person. Of course people bought up correctly in good ares, also go bad.
But we can't go too far down this road. Many years ago I read a report that tried to show how everyone that is bad or does bad things may not be to blame. The murderer that has the DNA to kill, the rapist that has the DNA to rape, and so on. The author was attempting to say that it is no ones fault that they are as they are.
Even if that was so, which I do not believe, bloody hard luck. Most people know that what they are doing is right or wrong.
The excuse I have often come across in child abuse is, It's not my fault, I was abused as a child'. The easiest excuse there is. And yet I know far more people who were abused as children, mentally, physically and sexually, who due to their experiences make damn sure it will not happen to their children.
There are far too many people who look for excuses for why people do things, instead of saying, 'These people are bad, simple as that. Leave the causes out of it when it comes to protecting the public. Those who can not help it, due to mental illness should of course be helped, but if they are a danger to the public, keep them locked up. If they are just pure evil, and there are some, throw the key away.
Until we start treating the victims above the level we treat the perpetrator of these crimes, we will never come near to winning the war against said crime, and will continue to be Soft Touch Britain.
