THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

fighting on a 27/1 stat is impressive indeed . This guy is the real deal .One of the best pound for pound fighters ive ever seen. Dynamite indeed. have watched a number of marcos maidana fights on sky and American cable tv .and am wagering rather heavily on his sheer power to totally overwhelm khan.Has the punch of a middleweight rather than a LW. For all his speed khan has never fought a puncher like this man / and MM has the stamina to throw flurrys and lethal combos all the way throughout a fight ........khans defence is dubious and he will get one on the chin early in the fight and go down like a sack of tatties .......

A year or two ago, Mayweather v Amir or Marcos, I would go for Mayweather, but he is now 33 and 5 of his last 6 fights have gone the distance although he won unanimous decisions, the other being a TKO.
So is he slowing down a bit? Could he keep Marcos away for 12 rounds (Not sure)?
Could he handle Amir's speed (probably), but remember Amir is getting stronger and more powerful?
To me Mayweather is the ideal fighter, fast, hard hitting and durable, a joy to watch, but like all great fighters especially the lower weights, the enemy that usually beats them is age.

aldwickk - 30 Sep 2010 08:20 - 9577 of 81564

No one as mention Manny Pacquiao , Cotto was a strong hard puncher and he destroyed him. .... and Manny is faster then Khan and with a better chin.

It is sometimes difficult to match/compare fighters against others in skill levels.
I remember good amateur fighters from my old club who had a so called 'nemasis opponent'.
There was one boxer who could never handle another club boxer although he could usually beat the boxer that the boxer he could not beat lost to.
Note... all three were orthodox.
Now if you can work that out, you are more awake than you should be.

When I used to box, I had a good punch, fairly fast hands, but my main weakness was I was slow to see punches coming. I was told some people are quicker to see cross movement that direct movement.
No good being a hard puncher who can't see punches coming.
I was always best in the first couple of rounds. If only my fights had been 1 rounders, I would have always made the distance.

History Paintings: John Boydells Gift to the City

John Boydell was one of the most influential figures in the history of printmaking in England, and he also played an important role in the development of the City of Londons art collection.

After serving as Lord Mayor in 17901, he began to donate a series of history paintings to the City.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.

The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, How is your friend Audrey doing?

She replied, Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.

Her wise father asked his daughter, Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, Welcome to the conservative side of the fence.

If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between conservative and liberal or progressive or neocon I'm all ears.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."
Well, I forwarded it to you.
Excellent stuff.
To avoid any confusion, here's a guide to the new Equality Act, which came into force on 1 October 2010 and which will most possibly be the destroyer of us all.
http://www.equalities.gov.uk/pdf/401727_GEO_EqualityLaw_Rights_acc.pdf
If youre disabled
If youre discriminated against because youre disabled, the new law could help you.
For example, there will be a slightly different test of what disability means. When the new law comes in, it will be easier for someone to show that they have difficulty carrying out their day-to-day activities, and therefore that they come under the definition of disabled person and are protected under the Act.
Example
You suffer from depression, so its very hard for you to make decisions or even to get up in the morning. Youre forgetful and you cant plan ahead. Together, these factors make it difficult for you to carry out day-to-day activities. Youve had several linked periods of depression over the last two years and the effects of the depression are long-term.
So, for the purposes of the Equality Act, youre defined as a disabled person. Before the Equality Act, you might not have been able to get disability discrimination protection.
This is me,
Very rarely see a post that I can honestly state, 'I agree with every word'.
The biggest problem with the liberal way of thinking is they want the impossible, IE everyone to be equal.
As my old dad used to say, 'We are all equal, but some of us are more equal than others'.
Money will always be able to provide the best for those who have got it, better health care, education, legal services, food, drink and so on.
This is the way of the world, and will always be so. It's about time their brains accepted the real world.
Cheryl Cole... who I love has had a mad moment. She has picked a Train Crash and left out the certain winner... and I am very rarely wrong... Gamu Nhengu would have won the competition... know doubt about that.. and the X-Factor/Cheryl Cole will end up with egg on their face...
Gamu Nhengu will be snapped up by another producer and thats for sure... In her absence 1 Direction will win and Matt Cardle will come second...that will now be the result. The real winner Gamu Nhengu has been mugged!
I have judged the competition on talent... and nothing else....Cheryl Cole has judged on emotion. Big mistake!!!
Sorry... but i am sad and love these shows...
You are a Gold Man AldoWarren Buffett asks all the gold in the world or half the properties in America.the value is the same.
Gold is a creation from The Man Above and is used by us as a moneyyou cant print it! the dollar was originally defined as a weight of gold1/20 of an ounce I believe
Building has roughly the same cost as the land it sits oncompletion on average sees the value more than double the building costs in my experienceAs the population increases land will inevitably soar in value.it will be a stronger currency than gold imogive me half the houses in America every time pleasebut I still wouldnt live there!!!I could be talking bo**ocks?but Gold dont look a great investment at the price?
aldwickk - 05 Oct 2010 10:03 - 9592 of 81564
yes but you can pack your bag's and take your gold with you and use it as a currency but you can't take a house with you and sell part's of it buy food ect:
