Hooray for VOG... rest of my portfolio taking a beating this morning (as it did last week!)

skyhigh - 15 May 2006 08:53 - 602 of 2511

Spoke too soon ! even VOG pulling back on the sp... market is in freefall !

cynic - 15 May 2006 09:29 - 603 of 2511

It says something about the amount of positions that are now being forced to liquidate, when even VOG is now down a few pence even after the RNS.

Peter123 - 15 May 2006 09:48 - 604 of 2511

I totally agree Skyhigh. Markets is not good today.

soul traders - 15 May 2006 11:11 - 605 of 2511

Morning all,

VOG's SP improving again right now. Expecting more good news from the rest of the scheduled exploration - I hope!! Bummer about the broad market sell-off this morning, but unless the commodities prices drop below those used in companies' feasibility studies then for all but short-term investors there's little reason to panic, IMO.

soul traders - 15 May 2006 11:13 - 606 of 2511

PS - don't let the MM's and the bears have it all their own way. Buy on weakness, I'd say, but avoid catching any falling knives!

IMO, WDIK, PDYOR.

cynic - 15 May 2006 11:33 - 607 of 2511

I still hold more than what I regard as my base holding in these, so although I sold some last week, I am more than happy to sit with the remainder.

ma - 16 May 2006 07:35 - 608 of 2511

One broker has come out yesterday with a 330p target

soul traders - 16 May 2006 10:03 - 609 of 2511

Good stuff Ma - that's what we like to hear! It seems from yesterday's RNS that there will also be a steady flow of news over the coming months as the various wells are tested.

Naturally the wells have to be successful in finding hydrocarbons in commercial quantities, but I see lots of reasons to be positive and think it's just a bit of a pity that everyone's panicking like mad right now.

PS - Ma, do you have a link to that broker price target?

ma - 16 May 2006 10:25 - 610 of 2511

mbrian - house brokers - (they would say that wouldn't they!)

ma - 16 May 2006 10:26 - 611 of 2511

Should read - mentioned in Times today - AMBRIAN

cynic - 16 May 2006 10:27 - 612 of 2511

the 330 target was mooted a couple of weeks back, though i don't recollect via which broker ...... meanwhile, a totally bleak day with VOG down from about 260 following the RNS to 220 now

soul traders - 16 May 2006 10:30 - 613 of 2511

Thanks guys.

soul traders - 17 May 2006 16:35 - 614 of 2511

Another day of reversals - not nice.

Call me a traitor, call me what you like but I have just cut back my holding in view of what looks like turning into prevailing bear-market conditions. I had almost a third of my portfolio in this one stock, on a net profit and if there's one thing I can't bear to watch, it's profits evaporating into thin air.

I still have a chunky holding in this one, though, and am convinced that it will produce the goods; I just don't feel like fighting a losing battle with the bears. I will sit on my cash for a while and keep my eyes peeled for bargains. It could include topping up on this one in a few months' time if the market doesn't give sufficient weighting to any good news which may be forthcoming.

cynic - 17 May 2006 19:22 - 615 of 2511

soul* old friend, you will note that VOG got through the day relatively unscathed ..... The market has forgotten for the moment the latest RNS which itself shot the sp up to 260 just a few days ago...... Like you, I have cut back my holding in VOG, but still hold what I originally intended as my core holding ... This i intend to love and cherish as long as my liquidity holds good!

skyhigh - 18 May 2006 08:26 - 616 of 2511

What's going on ? 200p ? just as well we had good news at the beg. of the week or we'd really be stuffed.
Must be bad news on the way that we don't know about yet ?
Dont make sense to me... must be a good time to buy ?

hlyeo98 - 18 May 2006 08:32 - 617 of 2511

This is a mad market at the moment...nothing makes sense

skyhigh - 18 May 2006 08:51 - 618 of 2511

True, VOG seems to be tracking the downward movement of the mkt for the time being.
I still think the FTSE will go down further 5500-ish... if it breaks this it'll be 5250 next stop !... don't think'll get this low but who can tell !

scotinvestor - 18 May 2006 11:23 - 619 of 2511

one of the brokers thinks FTSE will go lower than 5000!!!!

And also market will be suppressed for some period of time and i think we are talking about years!!!!

I'm not surprised since our government are crippled right now.
Unless a new government takes over, Britain is screwed. Especially England with the amount of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. You dont know who's who anymore in UK. I started going on hols to Russia, Ukraine in recent years as i like talking to people there and know at least who i am going to speak to when i approach them.

capetown - 18 May 2006 11:30 - 620 of 2511

scotinvestor,i very much doubt that our asylum seekers are effecting the share price of any stock
