SEFTON RESOURCES INC - UNDERRATED OIL PRODUCER (SER)

ptholden - 04 Aug 2006 19:53

???

Sefton Resources is an independent AIM quoted Oil and Gas company operating in the US. The companys principal current assets are two producing oilfields in California (Tapia Canyon Field and Eureka Canyon Field); it is also in the process of buying up prospective coal bed methane acreage (CBM) in Kansas.

Update from July 2007 AGM

Finance

I revealed in my annual statement that discussions were well advanced with
Banking institutions. The final phase of the agreement with a suitable bank
without complex and restrictive terms is now very near. This is weeks away
rather than months.

Oil

Oil production at Tapia has averaged 4,100 BO during the last five months. Which
is in line with last years levels. Once this finance is in place we will be able
to move ahead with drilling.

Drilling

We have stayed close to drilling contractors and we are ready to move forward
quickly when this finance is available.

Steam generation

The equipment is now in place at Tapia. Preparation time is needed to connect
the equipment and carry out the necessary trials required to get the main work
started. We anticipate this steaming will start in the next couple of months. If
successful a significant amount of oil resources will move into the Proven
Producing Reserves category.

Joint Ventures

Discussions continue with a number of interested parties to develop our Anderson
counties gas assets.

New finance team

A new CFO has been appointed with good knowledge and experience of the oil
industry. A new assistant to undertake all the daily needs has also been
appointed.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS:

Sefton has two oil fields, both producing. One is already profitable, and the other is breaking even. This should generate good cashflow for the company over the medium term.
Sefton owns 100% of both its major oil interests and is now demerging its non-controlled oil interests in order to concentrate on those where it has full control (Sefton has recently disposed of its Canadian assets for CDN450k cash).
Sefton is establishing a track record of using modern extraction technologies to improve the efficiency of its fields.

WEAKNESSES:

Sefton has suffered from a number of one-off factors. While these were out of the companys control the problems it has faced since 2002 have held back development and taken up management time. Investor disenchantment may account for the current low rating.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Sefton has acquired acreage for CBM (coal bed methane) in Kansas. CBM gas production is a thriving market and Sefton believes it has acquired the acreage at advantageous prices. While this is a longer term prospect it is an exciting one and could eventually eclipse the oil interests.
There are a number of other fields in the Ventura Basin and more generally in California as a whole that Sefton may look to target now its cash flows are stronger.
Eureka is a semi-exploration play which may contain further upside. This cannot yet be evaluated.
At this valuation the company may prove an attractive target for a larger player.

THREATS

Owing to its geographical location the company continues to be exposed to the threat of bush fires, canyon floods and geological interruption (earthquake risk). Sefton is taking steps to mitigate this risk by investing in Kansas and although Forest Basin area is susceptible to tornados - gas facilities have a minimal surface footprint.

Why restrict yourself to CFD's and exclude 1000's of smaller caps?

In these generally bearish times, small caps can outperform.

The header says it all and 16 months on that is still the case.

because it helps me stay well away from mini-minnows ....... very few of them actually make good, and a lot of them are total disasters ...... i find myself adept at doing my dosh on real companies, and seem to have an almost unfailing knack of picking shit smaller ones (VIY, GOO, AMER, PCI to name just a few) ..... however, i do hold BML as a little fun stock, and also did well out of Proximagen, though i managed to work that one on CFD

aldwickk - 28 Nov 2007 16:36 - 1344 of 2350

You can always a use Spread bet for smaller co's

cynic - 28 Nov 2007 17:00 - 1345 of 2350

confess i have actually forgotten how to use spread bets, though used to about 3 years ago ..... am i right in thinking that they work much the same as a traded option, in particular that they have an expiry date?

john50 - 28 Nov 2007 17:27 - 1346 of 2350

285,794 buys to 117,671 sells, should yet a tick up in the morning.

ptholden - 28 Nov 2007 18:17 - 1347 of 2350

Yes Richard they do have an expiry date. With IG you can take out a SB until Jun 08, but not with SER, too tiddly.

SECRUOSER - 28 Nov 2007 18:23 - 1348 of 2350

Hi ptholden,

Last week I emailed Gary and asked if there was any chance of improving the resolution on the Tapia map (the newer one), and the good man has sorted it. You may want to add a link to the thread header as it shows the locations of all the wells very clearly.

thanks Peter .... clearly like traded options .... will bear in mind as/when i use up all my CGT allowances from many years bad investment - like dotcom!

aldwickk - 28 Nov 2007 20:29 - 1350 of 2350

Cynic,

You can also roll them over for as long as you want at little cost.

Drilling update

Sefton Resources Inc. ('Sefton' or the 'Company') announces that its wholly
owned subsidiary, TEG Oil & Gas USA, has successfully completed its drilling
programme at the Hartje #16 & #17 wells. Both wells were drilled in the
east-central portion of TEG's Tapia Oil field. They were completed in the Yule
oil sand, encountered at vertical depths of approximately 1,100 feet below
surface. The wells were directionally drilled from existing surface well pads.
This minimizes surface impact and consolidates surface facilities for efficient
oil production operations into the future.

The drill rig is currently demobilizing from the Hartje #17 well location. The
installation of a surface pumping unit and final electrical and flowline hookup
will commence as soon as the drill rig equipment is cleared from the pad. TEG
plans to complete this work and commence production from Hartje #17 by the
middle of next week.

The Hartje #16 well has been producing for four days. Over that time, the well
has averaged approximately 70 BOPD from the 120 feet of Yule oil sand completion
interval. This rate is expected to settle out to a standard 30-day Initial
Production (IP) rate of greater than 40 BOPD. TEG is very pleased and encouraged
by the results thus far and a further announcement on Hartje#17 will be made
when it has production figures available.

The Company's Steam Testing Programme continues. TEG has scheduled a singles
workover rig to service the Yule #8 gas supply well for the first week in
December. The well tested at 1,150 Mcf of gas per day during an 8-hour flow test
in January of 2004. Since that time, the well has set idle. Over this four-year
period, fluid had collected in the Yule #8 well, sourced from a lower interval
that was opened prior to testing the gas zone. TEG has successfully isolated the
non-gas-productive perforations that were open in the well and interfering with
consistent gas flow. The additional work planned will complete this repair and
the gas will then be routed to the steam generator. Further news will be made
available when the current testing has been completed.

Having contemplated this RNS over a coffee this morning I think I'm fairly happy with it. Any boost to production is great news. The one thing I wish Sefton would do is name dates in their press releases instead of just saying "the middle of next week". I like to have a target to focus on!

Hopefully we'll see a little climb off the back of this good news today.

Toya - 29 Nov 2007 07:19 - 1353 of 2350

Morning guys - I'm not in SER myself but know how long you've all been waiting for news - hope it goes well for you today!

SECRUOSER - 29 Nov 2007 08:33 - 1354 of 2350

Drilling looks to have gone very well. rhino - were you expecting better rates than that? If the first well settles at 43bpd that increases production by 33% by itself. If the other is similar we are looking at a 65-70% increase in production just from these two wells. Looking forwards to further flowrate news next week.

'Middle of next week' is good because in reality things don't tend to happen on exact dates, so Sefton are less likely to be punished by the market if they give a broader date like this.

Regarding the steaming, i'm glad they are finding these problems and getting them sorted before starting steaming proper, rather than them disprupting things later on. Looks like steaming could start week after next then.

cynic - 29 Nov 2007 08:41 - 1355 of 2350

thanks ald* ..... will refresh my memory on SB in due course, but suspect CFDs work better for me at the moment

driver - 29 Nov 2007 10:24 - 1356 of 2350

Happy with the news all is "well" at SEFTON.

rhino213
"the middle of next week". is The 5 Dec Happy Xmas.

rhino213 - 29 Nov 2007 11:11 - 1357 of 2350

Like i said any rise in production is great news. As far as wanting to see dates I guess thats just the project manager in me coming to the surface.

1/2 million buys already and it's only 11:10!!!

ptholden - 29 Nov 2007 11:27 - 1358 of 2350

RHino not much in the grand scheme of things, clearly there is no rush to biy in, just had a look at L2 which is 1 v 1, unless some more buyers appear, I wouldn't be surprised to see a slip during the day.

SECRUOSER - 29 Nov 2007 12:14 - 1359 of 2350

Why play down this news?

Both wells successfully drilled and completed to schedule.

The initial flowrate is excellent. It will settle down to 'greater than 40bpd' as stated but even at 40bpd this adds a third onto existing production and revenues, and we have another to come next week.

ptholden - 29 Nov 2007 12:19 - 1360 of 2350

Not playing it doen Sec, just telling you what's on L2, there is little buying pressure. MMs marked it up first thing and without those all important buys, will ease the SP having made a few quid on the news. What will be a SP mover is the next set of results.
