Torotrak (TRK)

Anyone know why Torotrak is up 80% in the last two months.

Did you see SHARES 18th Jan page 47. The Chartist sees "Gains to 110p via 70p seem achievable technically". For that reason, I'm in again.

Fundamentalist has established Thread, why not join in rather than duplicate?

Sorry but it is results that count with this outfit:
Started as an offshoot of BTG, who were wise to get shot of a system that was far too complicated and (as then) unproven. SP abt. 3.60.....today we see it at a tenth of that price and even with "good news" they are using the transmission in mowers.
A while ago I suggested they should have a celebrity with a range-rover fitted and do some economy trials, (chosen so there is space to access the bits etc.) but of course this was before Rover went belly-up through misconduct by both the Unions and Management (both ignoring the consumer!).
Does TRK have a future?
I have a small loss-making holding in an ISA but I fear that even at that level it is unlikely to do better than evens - so 1 is way off.
This company rewards itsw executives with share-options and other largess (see RNS), which are never earned. Until performance is linked to pay that's to be expected...and as long as the execs can keep the dream alive they will do very nicely. Once they have production units on the road (as it were), that's when the technology is at risk...it won't provide the ecomony they shouted about - because now (after 10 years!) auto-boxes are multi-greared and programmable to maximise Official economy-tests.
I'm not suggesting the basic principle isn't sound (I don't know), but my suspicion is that it isn't otherwise we'd have seen some production before now. After all if what you have invented isn't needed (unsaleable for whatever reason) STOP spending shareholder money and do something else!
The idea of getting 2-litre performance out of a 1-litre engine (or the ecomomy of a 1-litre) is attractive and continuously variable gearing will improve passenger comfort, so it's applicable to both cars and buses.....so why don't they get on with it?
The SP tells it all, - - - IMHO, so DYOR before you jump!

colin nicoll - 15 May 2007 11:56 - 4 of 106

I've been watching Torotrak for a while and bought in at 38p. Todays prelim results look very encouraging especially the work with Aisin (mostly owned by Toyota).

colin nicoll - 05 Jun 2007 10:46 - 5 of 106

Good news today with the Xtrac transmission deal. Surprised that this one's so quiet.

Red Underwing - 06 Jun 2007 00:47 - 6 of 106

Certainly does not appear to be much interest here!

I wonder how much effect the news will have over the next 7 days. The deal must point the need to take the technology seriously!

Some links.

The proposed use does not include full use of the TRK IVT for the principal drive train. Its for an energy recovery system KERS.

An announcement on fork-lift truck prototypes today. Things are beginning to happen with Torotrak, but interest still seems limited.

colin nicoll - 04 Jul 2007 07:39 - 9 of 106

Asian car manufacturer ? Hopefully some form of contract to be announced by September. Jatco making IVT for Nissan ?

Bitter and Twisted - 14 Jul 2007 11:46 - 10 of 106

And now they need to raise more more for a larger dollop of jam tomorrow. Personally, I would like the company to be cash neutral first (which it has threatened so to be) before dipping my fingers into the wallet.

On the other hand, I will need to take part in this money raising exercise, if, for not other reason than to protect my holding from further dilution and to average down (yet again).

Tawdry outfit which I wish I had never heard of some 8 years ago when I bunged the first few bob at it at the BARGAIN PRICE 202P. I cannot imagine the shares reaching 100p in the foreseeable future, let alone 600p the all time high.

colin nicoll - 18 Jul 2007 13:03 - 11 of 106

AGM tomorrow I think. Hopefully yet more encouraging news. I'm planning to buy in further very soon.

colin nicoll - 15 Aug 2007 18:52 - 12 of 106

Steady buying continuing .... SP still not rising. Still hoping for some good news before the end of September. This could easily be a x2 or x3 rise ref The Chartist back in January. Torotrak seem to marketing themselves rather well now and the industry under pressure about fuel economy and emissions will need their type of products very soon.

colin nicoll - 14 Sep 2007 10:03 - 13 of 106

I wondered why there was no representation at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and it seems that Torotrak are out in force in Yokohama, transmission conference/exhibition. News this month ?

knocker1 - 01 Oct 2007 12:13 - 14 of 106

At last some good news,
Torotrak plc is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Licence Agreement
with Tata Motors Limited of Mumbai, India, providing Tata Motors with the rights
to apply Torotrak's full-toroidal traction drive technology to a wide range of
Tata Motors' products.

Under the terms of the licence, which is subject to formal approval by the
Indian Government, Tata Motors Limited has purchased the non-exclusive rights to
develop and manufacture transmissions which contain Torotrak's technology for
incorporation and sale in TATA branded and co-branded products. The licence
covers use of the Torotrak technology in four fields of application (passenger
cars, light commercial vehicles, medium & heavy commercial vehicles, and
construction equipment) and also allows Tata Motors to manufacture and sell
transmissions to other customers of Torotrak in the Indian market.

The financial consideration payable by Tata Motors in relation to the licence is
in line with the agreements contained in the Memorandum of Understanding which
we reported in our 2007 Preliminary Results Announcement on May 15th this year,
and is at a level where Indian Government approval is required. It is normal for
this process to take a number of months to complete at which point Torotrak will
provide further details of the financial terms of the licence.

colin nicoll - 05 Oct 2007 12:26 - 15 of 106

Plenty of good news within the past couple of weeks, and the figures look encouraging for the future. Hopefully a very bullish outlook. More news in November ?

colin nicoll - 24 Oct 2007 09:29 - 16 of 106

I've noticed that yesterday afternoon Tata stated to the press that they've a tie up for auto trans with Fiat. This could be what we've been waiting for. Hopefully some more good news to come very soon.

colin nicoll - 07 Nov 2007 13:25 - 17 of 106

Interims should be due soon. About time there was further news on Carraro (they also have some tie up with Mahindra & Mahindra which may prove relevant) and updates about Tata. Hoping that this one will be good !

colin nicoll - 15 Nov 2007 12:19 - 18 of 106

The buying trend's continuing, but only a marginal move in the SP. Hopefully Torotrak are building up news for good interims.

hangon - 23 Nov 2007 12:37 - 19 of 106

There seems to be a lot of room for exitement - what with a TATA-Fiat tie up - - - - er, just how does this affect TRK?

Fiat are well-known for small cars ( and relaunched the Fiat500, recently). er, and TATA is well established in India - where small cars would appear to be required by the masses - so that seems to me to be the reason for co-operation.
Now, where does this say "TRK" - and even if it said "we are developing a cheap small car with IVT, by TRK" -( ...which no-one has found so far...)

And, just how much would you expect TRK to earn from the deal ( if it existed)..?
- 1 per vehicle - that would mean 1m if they made a million cars - but that won't happen in yr1 - - - more like 100k - - - and what income does TRK need to support Directors and their renegotiated Options......probably a lot more.

Let's be realistic - this isn't the deal ( yet) - and whatever deal TRK gets it is unlikely to result in shareholders getting a dividend.

Furthermore, the longer "no-deal" appears the greater the risk that cars developinto Electric-hybrids - where there is little need for rollers, torroids, or other mechanical gismos - all of which add considerabley to need for care and precision - OK for an executive motor - but a real killer for something cheap.

Furthermore, for cheap motoring in Indian cities ( with pollution worries) - I suspect an electric-vehicle would be attractive, and would allow buyers to charge their car overnight ( when Electric generation is under-utilised)....kinda Win-Win.

I rest my case.

colin nicoll - 23 Nov 2007 12:58 - 20 of 106

The Interims are set for Tuesday 27/11, and announced too late for Shares Mag this week. Watch out for good news (I hope). I'm expecting to see positive news on Tata and Carraro, and updates on F1. I don't believe that Aisin AW are out of the picture yet either with a IVT for a big car still under investigation I believe, and maybe scope for a hybrid.

colin nicoll - 26 Nov 2007 17:35 - 21 of 106

With lots of potential business on the horizon, it's time for Dick Elsy to roll out the good news in the Interims ! A quick look through the news of the past few days has revealed that Aisin (for Toyota) still looks very much in the picture. I also understand that Tata wanted a partner for IVT before proceeding, so I guess that there's another player too, and there's clearly an 'auto trans' link up in India with Fiat .... so just maybe.
