JJ

sounds like a good idea - a guinness would go down a treat

LW - typical trainer - hoping for a poorish run first time to keep the handicapper at bay so a gamble can be landed next time out - enjoy the day and let us know when the gamble is!!!!!!

optomistic - 02 Mar 2005 20:08 - 1579 of 24230

JJ I would be satisfied with a pint of cool Guinness and the warmth of your company :-))

optomistic - 02 Mar 2005 20:15 - 1580 of 24230

OK jj I'll just have a pint of Guiness please :-))))

optomistic - 02 Mar 2005 20:31 - 1581 of 24230

OK so I'll just sit here next to the fire without the Guiness :-(((

optomistic - 02 Mar 2005 20:33 - 1582 of 24230

Steve Fossett and global flyer is now at 45000 feet over the pacific about 1000 miles north west of Honolulu, I guess he will be making the decision whether to stop in Hawaii in the next hour or so. It must be very lonely up there so far from land.

chocolat - 03 Mar 2005 00:18 - 1587 of 24230

"TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees."

"Centre, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?"

"Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?"

Spaceman - 03 Mar 2005 00:47 - 1588 of 24230

chocolat ;-) all the noise will be below global flyer !

jj50 - 03 Mar 2005 08:29 - 1589 of 24230

Steve Fossett is still going .... you will
be pleased Spaceman. It is getting lots of
TV coverage now.

Spaceman - 03 Mar 2005 09:02 - 1590 of 24230

jj, yes I am pleased, they found some good jetstream winds and they now have a chance of making it, here is an intercept photo from near Hawaii

ChasePlaneIntercept_4_Main_tcm206-5046.j

It will be great if they make it.

Spaceman - 03 Mar 2005 12:54 - 1591 of 24230

I am a bit peckish, any nibbles in here anywhere. I could have fish fingers but I have had them every day for the last 2 weeks ;-)

Priscilla - 03 Mar 2005 13:00 - 1592 of 24230

So the girlfriend's birthday didn't go well then Spacie?

stockbunny - 03 Mar 2005 13:14 - 1593 of 24230

Afternoon All - it is incredibly cold out there!!!
jacket tattie for me with coleslaw and grated cheddar!

Spaceman - 03 Mar 2005 14:13 - 1594 of 24230

P ;-)

Spaceman - 03 Mar 2005 14:33 - 1595 of 24230

Well the news on global flyer is much much better now, it looks as though they will succeed, the aircraft has now crossed the Pacific and has just passes Los Angeles. They have about 2 hours to go to make the airport in Salina. The tail winds across the pacific were good and in addition they reduced the speed of the aircraft and therefore its fuel burn and it looks as though they have enough.

Steve Fossett the pilot is a remarkable man who made his money as a trader, he holds a large number of records including non stop balloon flights and sailing records.

stockbunny - 03 Mar 2005 14:34 - 1596 of 24230

Well I hope they do, it's a lot of 'investment' of all types
to get a project like that off the ground.
