* M0NEY-AM G0LF DAY EVENT: 27 HOLES, INCL. SUSTENANCE & PRIZES (IN ADDITION TO M0NEY-AM SPONSORED PRIZES!) on: -
THURSDAY, 08 JUNE, 2006 *

So several months have passed... Based on the success of last Summer's Event at Longcliffe G.C., a few of you have asked me to take over the reigns from PTH and organise another G0LF M0NEY-AM DAY again based in the MIDLANDS. This is fairEST to the majority coming from all over the UK! From initial feedback (reflecting on 2005 36-Hole hot mid-Summer's day!), the popular view for a 2006 Event has been agreed, as follows: -

* Tea/Coffee on arrival.
* 9 Holes (4BBB 3/4 Stab.) Comp.
* Sandwiches/Lunch.
** 18 Holes (MAIN INDIVIDUAL (FULL HANDICAP) STABLEFORD EVENT) with M-AM and Golfing Prizes for Winners, incl. "Nearest-to-the-Pin" on the 9th. Hole and "The-Longest-Drive" on the 18th. Hole.
* 3-Course Evening Dinner (full waitress service), incl. coffee & mints + Prize Presentation/Mic. Table.

(** ADDITIONAL PRIZES from our generous SPONSORS include: - 3 months worth of Shares Magazine sent to the homes of EACH COMPETITOR every week. The Overall Winner will get The Money-AM Annual Golf Challenge Cup to keep for good plus 1 year's worth of Money-AM Level 2 service worth 357.50 + Vat. The Runner-Up and Third Placed Winners will each get a medal to keep plus 6 months' level 2.)

Venue: - H0RSLEY L0DGE G.C., Belper, Derbyshire (Championship Meadowland Course with American-type Greens). Refreshments will be in the On-Site Kingfisher Restaurant. Entry Fee is: - 60 per Competitor which will cover all of the above ** plus enough to buy some additional golfing prizes.

Very good, Ian - and thanks for the above. I will check out the 2005 thread and we can take it from there. Forgot to ask - Are any of you boys planning to join us? Please remind PaulJ that it's only 27 holes this year so he should be back home before 23:00 !!

IanT(MoneyAM) - 16 Feb 2006 11:15 - 20 of 505

mark,

I would love to join you but unfortunately my golfing skills didn't ever develop past pitch and putt :)

Ian

EWRobson - 16 Feb 2006 11:55 - 21 of 505

Wot! Only 27 holes. I get going on the last 9 in the afternoon! The lengths to which some people will go!

Thursday, 4th May OK, also 1st June if you want to slip in there.

Eric

OK, after several conversations with a few of you here - I am now firming up: - THURSDAY, 08 JUNE (the day before the World Cup starts!). There is another society playing on the same day but HLGC management are flexible and assure me they will fit us in somehow. However if our number exceeds 20 then it may mean either a late dinner or only 40 to 50 mins. for lunch?

Therefore, I propose a ceiling of 20 players, on a first come, first served basis. This allows for a 19:00 start for Dinner & Prize Presentation. I require 12 players, minimum to secure the Day [which I will have to pay for, next week!]. So, unless any other potential players have strong objections, I propose we stick with: -

THURSDAY, 08 JUNE, 2006 A.D. Done.

I'm in the US in may so will confirm when your date is a bit firmer.

markusantonius - 16 Feb 2006 17:13 - 24 of 505

See above, Scrip!

EWRobson - 16 Feb 2006 23:15 - 25 of 505

I'm in for one, Mark. Well done. Good decisive stuff. MoneyAM backing - thanks Ian.

Marcus,

Well done, count me in.

Is payment, as last year, via Ian at MAM. Cheque 60.00 payable to ???.

Sorry to to disappoint you, handicap 13, but am working very hard on it.

Could be 14 by June ! ! ! !.

Predateur

IanT(MoneyAM) - 17 Feb 2006 07:21 - 29 of 505

Mark,

Last year with regard to payment the cheques were made out to ptholden and sent here to me - I then forwarded them onto him. I think this would be the best course of action this year so if you want to put who they make the cheque payable to (ie you ) in the header and our address up there as well so people can send them over to me, and I will then forward them onto you.

Done.

fliper - 17 Feb 2006 16:06 - 31 of 505

If you can give me a fixed date , i would like to play.

markusantonius - 17 Feb 2006 16:23 - 32 of 505

Fliper, See above - THURSDAY, 08 JUNE, 2006 A.D. !

(What is your handicap, presuming you are keen?)

Ian, Any chance you could change the Header - inserting the new date (no longer May!)? Thanks.

fliper - 17 Feb 2006 16:32 - 33 of 505

Sorry ,I have just read above. I can say red backwards! Share dealing handicap 24 sitting on chp (may get cut on this one) Golf handicap of 6.

safety - 17 Feb 2006 16:49 - 34 of 505

No wonder EWR won last year, off 20 handicap, should be 7/8 handicap, no man should have anymore than 1 extra stroke per hole!!!!

markusantonius - 17 Feb 2006 16:59 - 35 of 505

Actually, Safety - funny you should say this - coz we had a massive debate last year which went to vote re: 3/4 or full - In the end, I and a few others had to give way to 100% allowance which obviously benefs the higher handicappers! - Otherwise Yours Truly would've been crowned King - At close, I had to settle for 2nd. Prize!!

Sorry, Eric :o)

EWRobson - 17 Feb 2006 19:16 - 36 of 505

Not a problem marcus: mind, don't know about this Sutton thing; just thought you were Mark, alias markusantonius, alias the Shark. Home course advantage this time round and not even giving us an 18 hole warm-up! Let us know when you want the dosh - and don't invest it in SEO!

Eric

safety - 17 Feb 2006 19:44 - 37 of 505

I play in lots of Seniors Stableford Competitions throughout the North West and 3/4 handicap is now accepted as the norm, a single figure handicapper will find it almost impossible to compete against someone with 20 strokes or more unless they are absolute duffers, but most are not, and obviously Eric isn't one !!!!

markusantonius - 17 Feb 2006 20:21 - 38 of 505

Can I ask where you play, Safety?

BTW, just FTR, I TOTALLY AGREE with you here and if you check last year's thread, you will be read my grounds for arguing your sentiments EXACTLY. However The M-AM 2005 Event at Longcliffe GC actually went, as follows: -
1st. 20-handicapper
2nd. 10-handicapper
3rd. 13-handicapper

At Longcliffe, PTHolden and the others decided that a 3/4 h'cap format would deter entries from the higher handicappers. Hence we went with full allowance. Despite my own personal opinion, I do think we should stick with the same format in 2006. Please believe me when I say that Eric's age-defying stamina and performance defied all logic in the blistering heat, last Summer. He was the only high handicapper who came anyway near the prizes (must be all those herbs and clean living?) on a very tough course. But if he wins again then I will definitely insist on a dr*gs-test!!

Repeat: I support your view on 3/4 (or 7/8). But I can assure you that HL will be a vastly different proposition not least because 11 holes require shots over ponds and as both PTH and Predateur will testify to - it's not an easy challenge for hackers!!

Anyway, after all that - are you joining us, Safety?
