Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

if drop is to 250, i don't think it'll stay there long as RKH already has oil, and almost (not absolutely) certainly an awful lot of it.

what i find extraordinary is the relative resilience of FOGL, for they have zilch and even if ernest does have commercial oil, it's still a long way away from FOGL's prospects

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 17:14 - 2292 of 6294

cynic don't forget FOGL is supported by BLT.

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 17:17 - 2293 of 6294

it'll need an awful lot more than an M&S sandwichto sustain it! ...... BLT can afford to have duds, but surely FOGL is really just a squiddly one trick pony - as is/was indeed RKH

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 17:20 - 2294 of 6294

cynic so what ask BLT what they think.

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 17:25 - 2295 of 6294

time will tell ..... anyway, i'm happy being short FOGL as it's nicely in the money, and if ernest is a duster, it's sure not going to have a happy day

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 17:31 - 2296 of 6294

cynic the fact that BLT has partnered with FOGL and is now very familiar with the search area is intrigueing, we are pretty sure they are not wasting time and money in the Falkland Islands to just enjoy the scenary and the weather.

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 17:42 - 2297 of 6294

as i said, time will tell ..... do you think they drilled toroa thinking it was a dodgy spot? ..... hardly! .... that would have been picked as where they thought most likely, and we all know the result

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 17:48 - 2298 of 6294

cynic so what BLT is the only multinational company that has committed to the FI so far, they have the knowledge and are ready to move if it turns out to be the major oil province we are lead to believe.

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 17:58 - 2299 of 6294

that as may be, but BLT may well find they have backed the wrong horse with FOGL ..... if you want to ask the Q as to whether or not BLT will have a pop at RKH, that is another story

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 18:15 - 2300 of 6294

cynic as you know BLT has the muscle to buy out any of the FI tidlers if any of them come up with anything worthwhile, but more importantly they are ahead of their serious competitors in finding out whether it is worth drilling in these waters. Shell drilled and went away as they did in Uganda, just maybe RKH may be on BLT's agenda,we will find out in the next few months.

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 18:24 - 2301 of 6294

that is irrefutable, but i believe my previous comment stands ... perhaps we should be dabbling in BLT too, though i confess i have never even looked at them

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 18:33 - 2302 of 6294

cynic mega multinational often overlooked because of their Aussie origins, it would be ironic if they come out the winner in the FI's, how far is it to Melbourne from Port Stanley?

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 18:59 - 2303 of 6294

further than to port mawsby!

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 19:26 - 2304 of 6294

cynic you mean Moresby in PNG?

cynic - 13 Aug 2010 20:03 - 2305 of 6294

of course

halifax - 13 Aug 2010 23:50 - 2306 of 6294

cynic wait for BLT to pounce if there are further significant discoveries.

cynic - 14 Aug 2010 08:43 - 2307 of 6294

as one of those targets would almost certainly be RKH, i would be absolutely delighted!

Proselenes - 14 Aug 2010 13:56 - 2308 of 6294

Once Sea Lion is flow tested will we see Cairn coming for Rockhopper ?

"................Cairn is understood to be keen to enter into new and promising regions for exploration such as East Africa, the Falkland Islands and Brazil..............."

HARRYCAT - 14 Aug 2010 19:26 - 2309 of 6294

I thought Cairn itself was possibly being approached?

Toroa was picked at this time because it was about the only FOGL/BHP target shallow enough for the OG and they needed to get something drilled for their license commitments.

Whilst I have always been a big fan of the North basin because of the known geology from the first drilling round in 98, FOGL and BOR do have by far the biggest potential in bbls , should they get a strike.

Pro....not necessary for an outfit like Cairn to buy into any of the current FI's Companies, should they wish to explore in the area as there are more licenses coming up for grabs at the end of this year.
