Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

cynic as you know BLT has the muscle to buy out any of the FI tidlers if any of them come up with anything worthwhile, but more importantly they are ahead of their serious competitors in finding out whether it is worth drilling in these waters. Shell drilled and went away as they did in Uganda, just maybe RKH may be on BLT's agenda,we will find out in the next few months.

Toroa was picked at this time because it was about the only FOGL/BHP target shallow enough for the OG and they needed to get something drilled for their license commitments.

Whilst I have always been a big fan of the North basin because of the known geology from the first drilling round in 98, FOGL and BOR do have by far the biggest potential in bbls , should they get a strike.


Pro....not necessary for an outfit like Cairn to buy into any of the current FI's Companies, should they wish to explore in the area as there are more licenses coming up for grabs at the end of this year.

They have the money to develop, far better for them to take RKH and proven Sea Lion and progress it as well as explore.

With the money to develop they can make serious money from something like Sea Lion.

chav - i know i'm very very stupid, but unless i'm much mistaken, nothing at all has been remotely proven in the southern basin, so how on earth can you justify that it has the potential of millions and billions and zillions of barrels any more than mars does?

Had a pint with a guy who is just off to the west Falklands working for the Atmospheric Research Facility (Measuring particulates in the atmosphere for some obscure reason). Sadly he is not up to speed on the drilling program, so he won't be much use for dockside info, though he did say that anything routing through Argentina, regardless of whether it is oil related or not, is very severely delayed if it has any British connection. They are very anti-British atm.

So what other options has RKH to bypass Argentina , Chile ?

Cynic....NFB only had/has the 'potential' for Zillions of Barrels till the drillbit proves it all up. Seismic points out possible traps/reservoirs for the potential size of the 'Pot of Gold' and at some time the drillbit will probably prove it up. FOGL/BOR acreage is huge should all the pieces in the Hydrocarbon Jigsaw fall into place and Sealion has proved that it has happened in the NFB.

Looks like a few are nervous about the Ernie result this morning.

Could be any time today that we get news any thing on Expro personnel?
