THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Al, we should get together and form the Alternative Alternative Investment Market (A2IM) and price things properly.

Kim, no problem, by my reckoning there's a 14.28% chance of it being Sunday. Unless the market's open.

Al, another suggestion to cure your blues: buy SOLA and VLK.

Back on two of my favourite themes. Smoking and inherent stupidity.
Yesterday my daughter was thrown from her horse and an ambulance was called. In the end it was not serious and she was allowed home, but we had to endure several hours at the local hospital, set in enormous grounds. Of course as a parent, i was worried for her state, and (as any smoker will testify) I needed a ciggy. The grounds were full of these silly posters saying that in the open air, If I had a cig, I would be killing millions of babies through second hand smoke and making the entire planet uninhabitable, therefore if I lit up, I would be whipped to within an inch of my life and deported to a backward African nation.
Earlier in the week it was reported on our local radio that a local high school were tackling the issue of pupils smoking by allowing it in certain areas of the playground, providing they had a note from their parents granting permission. This it was argued, would lead to pupils being less strung out and more able to concentrate on their school work.
Now call me Mr Silly, but surely this means we have one body preventing something that is entirely harmless (smoking in the open air) while another promotes something that is illegal (under 16's getting cigs). I would also submit, your honour, that the one place you are likely to find stressed out people is in a hospital, rather than a school.
Time for the plane to somewhere that demonstrates a modicum of common sense. Anyone joining me??

count me in, as long as you don't mind if my mate phil tags along .

bosley - 22 Oct 2006 20:33 - 5491 of 81564

btw, why has maestro got a ghost thread. it's not fair !! i want one !!

jimmy b - 22 Oct 2006 20:34 - 5492 of 81564

.

hewittalan6 - 22 Oct 2006 21:05 - 5493 of 81564

Phil is more than welcome.
I wasn't asking for somewhere that allows smoking anywhere at all (though it would be nice), just somewhere where jumped up little pricks are not put in charge of public policy and get it so stark staringly wrong!!
I just could not believe two local authorities were at such odds with each other.
Maestro probably had a thread that contained several variants of naughty words and was a monologue of his conspiranoia. They always are, but such fun.

Marc3254 - 23 Oct 2006 11:37 - 5495 of 81564

Sunday was a fine example of why michael is the worlds best driver. I am glad he's gone. Why? only so button has more of a chance to get on the podium.
A great career, a great driver, a great sportsman.

Bloody cheek of it. MAM has launched a financial blog. What do they think this thread is???
A rival to our beloved NOWT appears over the horizon, just cos Ian can't take the competition. Time to write a stiff letter.

Yup ,maybe the best ever ,,,shame we didn't see him race more years against Senna (two of a kind) ,would have been some fantastic battles... There is a profile of his career on itv at 11pm tonight.

bosley - 23 Oct 2006 22:45 - 5498 of 81564

no doubt about it , jimmy, he is the greatest ever. you're not the only one who wanted to see him race senna a few more times.

jimmy b - 23 Oct 2006 23:41 - 5499 of 81564

They could have made a better programe than that ,,,i would like to have seen a bit more about him ,,a couple of interviews,, maybe an insight in to his life ,but i think he's quite a private type ,i did read that he is having a castle built by Lake Geneva , how fantastic would that be! ..
