if you have to wait for 3 years or more on the possible chance of seeing a decent return, then take your money elsewhere

2517GEORGE - 02 Jan 2008 18:14 - 555 of 1154

Lex----I bought mine nearly 4 years ago so I don't really want to hold for another 2 or 3 years, but I do feel there is much more upside to come. I have never traded them so I have held them through thick & thin. I do have shares I have held for longer, but they provide a decent income, I may give PET up to 1 more year.

i wiould hope that means you bought at 20/30p and certainly no more than 60p ..... just going to sleep on a share is not sensible investing and if you have a decent profit, imo you should consider selling up or at least top-slicing not less than 50%

2517GEORGE - 02 Jan 2008 18:29 - 557 of 1154

cynic--------I paid 43p for them and yes I may well have got attached to them (not wise I know) and any return from them is only going to be sp appreciation, I have thought about selling part/all several times but haven't. I recall buying HTV @ 22p many years ago & selling @ 51p only to see them taken over @ 6.46 some 2 years later, and that is not an isolated case. So UP TO a year it is then, for better or worse.

your logic is somewhat strange ..... no one has any idea at all what the future will bring ... it's all very well remembering the ones you sold too early; what about the ones you sold too late, or at least damn well should have sold? .... in theory, you have already thrown away 25% (40p) of your profit on PET

BAYLIS - 02 Jan 2008 22:00 - 559 of 1154

LIFE ITS LIKE THAT.

lex1000 - 03 Jan 2008 07:53 - 560 of 1154

Buy 2007 & sell in 2010 is called long term investing. Many have no idea size of oil fields in Iraq.Plenty to go around. High upside for PET.Yes there are risks.Yes there are challenges.Yes you can trade in & out if you like.Watch & learn.

cynic - 03 Jan 2008 08:14 - 561 of 1154

i have! ..... watch and learn from EME and VOG and Big Al! .....

i repeat; there is absolutely no need at all to be buying this stock at this time ...... though things MAY go right for PET at some time in the future, the unknowns are more than siginificant .... further, even if decent oil is found, it is still a long process from there to getting it out of the ground and to a refinery.

lex1000 - 03 Jan 2008 08:23 - 562 of 1154

Iraq not waiting for HCL,gearing up to issue contracts using existing laws and imo PET will get something.Dig a spade in the sand you strke oil in iraq.Re-rating with proven oil reserves in ground well before production.Time will tell.

cynic - 03 Jan 2008 08:30 - 563 of 1154

yeah yeah yeah ..... perhaps PET will first dig up the statue of Ozymandias ..... "Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! ....... boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away" ..... and even when that happens, assuming it does, there will still be plenty of time to jump on board and make an honest shilling or shekel ..... meanwhile, for the next 2/3/4 years there are better investments elsewhere.

lex1000 - 03 Jan 2008 08:47 - 564 of 1154

Go on name the better investments with mid price. We can then compare notes with PET @ 113p mid.

cynic - 03 Jan 2008 09:02 - 565 of 1154

up to what price, though i fail to see what diff that makes? ..... any particular sector? ..... must it/they start with a particular letter or limit of syllables?

lex1000 - 03 Jan 2008 09:08 - 566 of 1154

You choose.Simply name the better investments you are talking about providing EPICs & todays mid price.

Rattle off your best half dozen.

cynic - 03 Jan 2008 09:33 - 567 of 1154

OK ... will do but first give me some time to catch up with real work at the office ..... may even add brief logic as to why the choice ..... will post on the FTSE thread, as prob better than here

lex1000 - 03 Jan 2008 09:37 - 568 of 1154

OK fair enough if you need time.As long termers I like DGO & TLW...

cynic - 03 Jan 2008 09:39 - 569 of 1154

DGO i don't know, but i also rate TLW, though i plumped for PMO instead

lex1000 - 03 Jan 2008 09:47 - 570 of 1154

Oil & gas good sector to be invested in.DGO,PMO & TLW imo safe long term plays.

lelael - 03 Jan 2008 09:58 - 571 of 1154

cynic I really enjoy reading your posts and have learnt a great deal from them but please note DGO has gone up 5% while you continue this discussion on PET,I thought we are here to make some money now not in 3/4 years.

cynic - 03 Jan 2008 10:00 - 572 of 1154

as i said, i have no idea who DGO are .... and yes i agree re PET - just read! ..... by the way, AL. have not done so badly this either!!

2517GEORGE - 03 Jan 2008 10:16 - 573 of 1154

Good morning cynic, re my post 557 I wasn't suggesting that I would hang on to PET because I had sold HTV too early, HTV was just 1 of a few examples I could have chosen, the reason I am hanging on to PET is that I believe there is considerable upside to come. I have 'lost' 40p as you say, twice actually but I can live with that, we are all here to make money but 'what is it they say' don't play the market if you cannot afford to lose the money invested.. Good luck all.
