Sterling Energy PLC
15 November 2007
NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION IN OR INTO THE UNITED STATES, AUSTRALIA, CANADA OR JAPAN
15 November 2007
Sterling Energy PLC
('Sterling' or the 'Company')
Placing to RAISE 11.0 MILLION
Sterling (symbol: SEY), an AIM listed independent oil & gas exploration and
production company with interests in the Gulf of Mexico and Africa and the
Middle East, is pleased to announce that it has raised approximately 11.0
million gross of expenses (US$22.3m) through a placing of 78,510,027 ordinary
shares of 1p each ('Placing Shares') at 14p per Placing Share (the 'Placing').
The net proceeds of the Placing will be used to fund the initial costs relating
to the Production Sharing Contract ('PSC') entered into with the Kurdistan
Regional Government of Iraq ('KRG') for the Sangaw North exploration block
('Block'), announced on 12 November 2007.
The PSC
The Block, which covers an area of 492 sq km is located approximately 140 km
south east of Erbil and 50 km south west of Suleimaniah. It lies in a highly
prospective area around 50 km south east of the giant Kirkuk oil field and on
trend with the major Taq Taq and Chemchemal oil and gas discoveries. The Block
itself contains a large surface anticline with the possibility of multiple
reservoir targets, in common with many existing fields in the area, providing
strong encouragement for exploration success.
The terms of the PSC are in accordance with the terms and conditions published
by the KRG. Sterling has 100% interest in the PSC subject to back in rights for
the KRG and local industry partners.
The PSC has an initial 3 year exploration period during which Sterling plans to
acquire approximately 200 km of 2D seismic and drill at least one exploration
well. The Company will start work immediately, having already established an
office in Erbil earlier this year. It is anticipated that expenditure over this
period, including initial costs, could be in the order of US$35 million.
Sterling's signature of the PSC, together with other recently signed agreements
with the KRG, brings the number of international oil companies now working in
Kurdistan to 25.
Operations Update
In an operating update published on 12 November 2007, Sterling announced that Q3
net group production averaged c. 6,100 boepd, an increase of 25% over the first
half. The Company also confirmed the imminent start of drilling offshore Gabon
on the 5-20 million bbls Admiral prospect in which it has a c. 28% interest, as
well as continued drilling in the USA and the start of Phase 2b development work
in Mauritania in early 2008.
The Placing Shares
The Placing Shares will rank pari passu in all respects with the existing
ordinary shares of 1p each and will represent 4.76% of the Company's enlarged
issued share capital. Application has been made to the London Stock Exchange for
the Placing Shares to be admitted to trading on AIM. It is expected that
admission will become effective and dealings in the Placing Shares will commence
on AIM on Tuesday, 20 November 2007 ('Admission').
Following Admission the Company will have 1,648,710,585 ordinary shares of 1p
each in issue.
Commenting today, Harry Wilson, Chief Executive of Sterling Energy Plc, said:
'The proceeds of this Placing will fund the initial costs on the Sangaw North
exploration block, which is the latest addition to our growing portfolio of
near-term drilling projects. The upside in these exploration targets, when
combined with our producing US and Mauritanian assets, positions the Company
well for the future.'

tiltoman - I can not reply to your question unless you send me an email address.
However I am pleased that you took the advice in Spring and did not buy into Sterling then!
Times are a changing, strategies change too.
I have said all I have to here, the rest is up to you.

This thread was started on 14th June 2004.
The share price was oscillating between 14pence and 16 pence then.
Today it closed at 14 pence and could be on a renewed down turn, I trust cynic to put me right there.
Plainly underachieving.
Don't care too much about what's in the pipeline, I would never in a million years have expected this to have happened, or not as the case may be.

prop, as I have had a personality change you will know that I think this sucks.
I should have stayed out when I sold out in 2006. I didn't although I have made a few quid trading here and there, it's not really been worth the effort of pushing buttons, while others stocks have run away, like soco dana and jkx.
Good luck to new holders with new money, I hope they wont need the luck.

Well, I have had my attention grabbed for some time by NPE and TRP, in particular but mostly I have been dumming down for 9 months or so.
I keep looking at WLW and thinking that can't be right, but I am not too sure I want to take out a pun t on it just in case it disappears up it's own ar*ehole.
Have a look see at TRP for Uganda in particular, Namibia less so in my book. NPE is one that will get taken out sometime by it's parent Company most likely, plus it has a nice portfolio of safe North Sea assets.
There's plenty over on ADVFN for both, less so here.
Not too sure about your PANR tip, it's been through the wars........

What shall we look at?
Not this one.
Looking back to Novemeber I coud have made a few quid on my thoughts for the overall market, but then I also have not lost any.
TRP, IVE and NPE
I had an sold some WLW from it's low frankly I think this market rally is very reassuring but also short term.
Small oilers did not move during the depressed period.

So, they won't go under. Those shorted this company should start buying back next week. IMO
The volume yesterday was the third highest volume ever since ten years ago. 80M was the highest just before it touched 35p... I bought at 33p though!

ahoj, sure about the volume, we had 64 million traded yesterday, I'm sure I have seen several other high days?
Re the short traders, if they leave it until next week they could be a long way out, shorts need to close fast IMO.
33p seems a lot nearer today than yesterday but will take more than a few days to see that figure again.
Good luck

I very much doubt there was any shorting of this company.
More like ineptitude by the management and a complete disregard of the small investor.
That is why HW has been side;lined and in the nick of time too imo.
Now it has a chance if you are prepared to hold for another 5 years.
I will hold my few just for fun after all they cost me nowt!
Meantime those who feel the need may ramp away.

Long time since I looked in here!
Finally, some good exploration news!
One point that seems to have been missed, and I'm surprised SEY didn't mention it in their RNS, is the higher price of gas in USA, which will compound the already higher production in 2008.
Add on the new production, and all in all a decent result.
